My Highest Single Day Commissions on Amazon

Last Update: April 08, 2019

I had my highest sales on Amazon on Saturday. I have sold more items in a single day before, but this was the highest dollar amount. Two items were over $100 each and there were 8 items total. The commissions for that one day of sales will be about $28. That isn't big money but if I had that coming in every day I would feel pretty rich considering this is my 3rd job! This is also seperate from my WA commissions for referrals.

This just shows that it CAN be done without a ton of SEO knowledge or IT skills. I started with no SEO knowledge at all. Most of the products purchased had nothing to do with my website or products I review either. That is the power of Amazon. Anything purchased gives you a commission as long as the customer got to Amazon through your website links. I get more sales for products I review, but there are quite a few unrelated items purchased. In this case there was a cat tree and the other large item was a bathroom ceiling fan at $130.

My traffic was up last week which probably accounts for the higher sales as well. The key is getting high quality traffic to your site. High quality traffic means A) real people not bots and B) people ready to make a purchase rather than people just looking at random things they find on social media. That is why I don't put much time into social media. I prefer the focused traffic that comes from organic search results. Those people are searching for specific terms that bring them to my website. If someone searches for a home remedy for a cat cold, they are not just randomly looking at stuff. They have a kitty with a cold and need a way to fix it fast. If they are searching for affordable cat trees for large cats, they are probably in the market for such a product and looking for realistic reviews. If you can solve people's problems and also use good SEO principles you will get focused, high quality traffic to your website and are likely to get sales. You need to offer great information to answer people's questions and use SEO so that your posts get high rankings in the search engines so readers can find them.

As many of you know I have had many issues with health and other jobs keeping me busy the last few months. I have not been active on my sites. This shows that a great foundation of content on your site can keep traffic coming in long after you write it!

Hello Jessica,

Thank you for a great and encouraging blog post, you have just proved what can be achieved online from being consistent and taking action. I hope that your health stays strong and that you're able to keep moving forward.

The great thing is that with affiliate marketing, as you mention, is that people can come to your website and actually buy something completely different and you still receive a commission!

Wishing you all the best.

Thanks Roy. My traffic and sales are down lately since I have been really busy getting some vacancies in our rental properties ready to go and busy at my job. Once I have a bit more time to add content to my sites I am sure they will pick back up again.

I got health issues also and that is an issue for me in trying to finish my content writing. Thinking I might need to outsource it from Fiverr. Pay someone to do it. Too many distractions at my facility where I live, staff always coming in when I need care. Another WA Member advice me outsource my content, it be better if I did it myself. Then I can prove to myself that I did it and worked at it. Sigh, life can be complicated. Thanks this means if you have done the work (even small amount of $$ is better than zero) then I can.

Yes, thank you Brenda. I hope you can move forward one way or the other. I have not outsourced content so I can't give advice on that but many successful members here do.

Do you have Windows 10 on your computer? There's voice to text availability on Windows 10. Do you think that might help you?

Yaya, no I have a Macbook Pro, iPad Pro, and iPhone XR. I am an Apple product lover. No more PCs for me. I use the speechy app on my iPhone. Its called speech to text. Yes, it works. I use it for the videos on here. It is far from perfect, spelling errors and grammatical issues. For example, if Kyle said in the video, "Today, we are going to learn how to use PrettyLinks." My speechy app, will say type out "today, we are going to learn how to use pretty lick" Funny eh? Or it spells out the word hear for hair, or spell here for hare? It gets them all mixed up. I have to read the context and guess which word is right and that makes the most sense.

Depending on which side of that speech tool you're standing on, that's pretty funny. 'Course, if I were really wanting to learn sump'n or understand what I was tryin' to listen to, well... you might hear a fine bit of grumbling from MY side of the speech tool.

I wish I knew some way to help you. I would gladly help you, if I could... or, knew how. Hang in there, my friend. P'rhaps doin' as someone else mentioned; using Fiverr, will help. I surely hope so, for you certainly deserve to succeed.

Hugs!!!

This is just all-around wonderful, Jessica! I'm happy for you that, in the midst of everything else you're dealing with, you have a real plus to celebrate through your Amazon earnings. Personally this is encouraging to me because, like you, I don't care to focus that much time and attention on social media. I do my best, but it's not what I love, and I'd rather focus on the content that leads to organic traffic. Long-term, that seems far more sustainable to me than relying on social media platforms that not only change but outright disappear on us. I wish you continued success with my thanks for the inspiration offered in this post. Best wishes!

Swangirl Premium
Yes! They change and they often result in more lookers not buyers. People on social media are just hanging out, not looking for something specific so they are less likely to make a purchase. People dive into social media and don't realize the vast amount of time it takes too! To be successful on social media you have to be on it every day.

I believe 100% in the organic search traffic method.

Thanks!

Congrats, and this is definitely a start. I don't know if you have any domain names, nor how many, but for me, I would look at it that amount will pay for renewal on my 2 domains this year! With a tad bit left over for a white chocolate mocha. LOL

Keep it up, Jessica,

That is awesome Jessica! You are an awesome example that it is possible to work multiple jobs, handle health issues, clean up after earth quakes AND still have your affiliate marketing website pulling in sales.

I do appreciate you sharing the reminder about good organic searches vs people just looking around on social media platforms.

Jessica, I hope that your week just gets better and better.

Are you feeling better today?

Bracing for another blizzard here this afternoon. I'm right on the edge of where they predict it to be, so it might be nothing...... fun, fun.
Reply
Swangirl Premium
Yes, I saw the blizzard prediction and thought of you. It is hard to imagine as it is 50 degrees and sunny here in Alaska. It was 55 degrees a few days ago..

I am feeling about the same honestly. I have a few itchy spots where the mystery rash I got last week is reappearing. That is scary since I have no idea what it is. The cough is better, my foot is better so that is nice. I am still exhausted though. It is pretty amazing how dependent I am on the natural, immune boosting supplement I take. I ran out last week and that is when all this got worse.
Reply

Well, at least you know the supplement works. I hope that you can get more soon.

Hopefully, you are going to be breaking more Amazon records soon.

Take care,

I already have it. It must take a while to fight back the bugs.

Yes, I hope so. I had more sales the next day (but much lower commissions since they were cheaper products and in the 4% bracket instead of 8%) and yesterday I had no sales at all.

Thanks. I hope you don't get a blizzard.

Liked your thoughts. I don't recall if it was a best day but one of the best product reviews I did in term of making money was one that fit your description of solving a problem that people had.

(Newbies, the reason I'm not saying more about that post is that unfortunately over the years when I have done that in IM forums, people have copycatted my post. It's the principles that really count.)
Reply

Yes, that is the way to go. Offer solutions.

I don't worry about sharing my links (I have mine on the appropriate section of my profile) since I have had my content stolen by a non-WA member who used it as their own. I have not had that problem with a WA member. It can happen anytime but I get a lot of benefit from sharing with WA members here.

Do you have a WA promotion website? Keeping sites a secret seems to be more of an issue with those.

Thanks.

Hullo,
It's very nice to meet you.

Congratulations on your Red Letter Day! I hope you have many more an' each one is better than the last.

I haven't really figured out how to do a lot, but I am moving forward with the lessons. Some days, it seems that all the different terms are difficult to grasp, but I'm sure that as I continue to learn, that information will begin to find places in my brain where it can settle-in an' make itself comfortable.

Looking forward to much success as you continue to move forward.

One of the great things about Amazon commissions is that we're not limited to our own niche. There are good things to be had by being an Amazon associate :)

Jessica,
You just made my day! I don't feel so foolish now. I am starting from where you were. There may be hope for me after all. Today I finished a two-hour beginners course on WordPress. Then I spent an additional 3 hours rewatching Jay's SEO videos again. Jays training is such a valuable asset. I finally feel like I can pull my site together. It Is nice So to listen to another member who started where I am. Thank for the post and congratulations on your commission.

I started with zero understanding Sandy. I did not even know what SEO was! Just stick with the basics and don't get distracted with shiny objects. That is my best advice. I could be so much further ahead now if I had listened to all those that said consistent content creation was the way to go! I wasted way to much time dawdling around trying to make social media work. It can be great but it isn't where a beginner should start in my opinion since you need good content for the visitors who come to your site. I know you didn't say anything about social media here, I just have it on the brain.

You will get there.

Thank you!

Congrats Jessica! I am glad to hear you are getting some passive income, that's what it's all about. I have been getting Amazon activity and it's pretty funny when people order random stuff that has nothing to do with the niche I am promoting. But hey I will take it.

Good SEO is building for the long term. Congrats, and here's to more sales.

Well done for what has been achieved.

I really understand the points you have made. Content needs to be targeted to help people solve a problem and you just cannot under-estimate the importance of SEO.

Getting to grips with optimising your content and targeting 'low-hanging fruit' has been the difference since I started in WA in February 2019, compared to writing blogs leisurely in the past and getting very little traffic to my website.

I rely on the basics Edwin. I use long tail keywords but I am more picky about the results. I rarely use a keyword that has more than 20 or 30 for competition. Many of the keywords I use have under 10 competition.

I use featured images, fill in all the fields like Alt text, description etc. , use headings, internal links...all the SEO tricks that are taught here.

You will get there in time. Thank you!

Congrats Jessica! I agree with you, I spend more time with SEO because I like the idea that people are actively looking for a solution. I don't have to convince them to get one.

And I'm a late bloomer to Amazon. I've been doing affiliate marketing for years and use to hate on Amazon because of their crappy 24 hour cookie and low rates. But now I've been using it on one of my other blogs once I realized you get paid for anything someone buys on amazon. And its paid off. I feel stupid for ignoring them all these years. lol
Reply
Swangirl Premium
Ha ha! Thanks for the admission here Eddy. I see so many people that hate Amazon but I have to say they have been great for me. I love that you can cover so much ground with one affiliate program. If someone is starting out that makes it much more manageable. You don't have to wait to reach a payout balance on 10 different affiliate programs. All of your commissions are counting toward the same payout on Amazon.

I know there are downsides and we shouldn't have all our eggs in one basket but the advantages can't be ignored! I literally had sales of a cat tree, a pair of shoes, fancy light bulbs etc. all on one day.
Reply
Selenityjade Premium
Another thing to consider is that shoppers trust Amazon. Back before I decided to try affiliate marketing, if I was researching a product, I'd read reviews on websites but if the links went to the actual manufacturer like say you're looking for cat food and the link takes you to the Purina online store, I would just search for that product on Amazon anyway because my payment information is all there, I trust their security, and I'm a prime member. So... That's why I'm an Amazon affiliate. Though I'll definitely affiliate elsewhere too.
Reply
Swangirl Premium
Yes. I think recognition and trust help a lot with Amazon sales. People know what Amazon is and don't have to wonder if their credit card info is secure etc. People also like to read reviews on Amazon and will probably trust them more.
Reply
EddySalomon Premium
You make a great point Jessica. Furthermore Amazon converts like crazy. It's damn near impossible not to buy something when you get there. So as long as you can get people there, chances are they will buy something. You can't really say that for other affilite programs. The fact they cover damn near every category makes it very affiliate friendly.
Reply
EddySalomon Premium
Yup that's another great point. It's something I do as well and if my stubborn ass wasn't hating for so many years I would have thought about that too. Lol

I really like Amazon's associate program. Some people complain about it but there are definitely serious pros that have to be weighed against the cons. Yes, they have a short cookie (only 24 hours) but people can buy a cat tree, light bulbs, paper towels and a pair of shoes and we get all the commissions even if we don't review the items.

On the other hand, I don't like the creeping feeling that Amazon is becoming the next WalMart...that is the only part the bothers me. I would rather support only small businesses. From a purely business perspective however, I think Amazon is great for bloggers starting out. You can get sales from all different categories in one place without signing up for tons of different affiliate programs. If you sign up for 10 affiliate programs but they all have a $10 or $20 minimum payout it could be a very long time before you get paid!

Thank you!

I was just thinking, Amazon actually helps many small businesses get started too! Like us! I was contacted by a person whose company makes biodegradable planters with cat grass. He offered to send me a free sample so I could potentially review it.

I looked and their product is sold on Amazon! How handy. If I chose to review his product it is already on Amazon so I don't have to sign up for another affiliate program.

Thanks Fran. I was sick this weekend and Aaron was worse! I got myself together enough to go out and get him medicine so this was a nice surprise. It always seems these things happen when I am sick. I wish they would happen when I am feeling better so I could enjoy them more. I won't complain though!

I had another featured snippet too but now it is gone :( I was going to do a post about that one since it was a post I added about 5 weeks ago and it already got up to position "0"! It is the last one I did on apple cider vinegar for upper respiratory infections in cats. It is still in the top 3 but no longer the snippet.

Thoroughly enjoying my new old cat (he's 13). He is doing well, though he is really shy around strangers. I've made progress this week, though, as I've finally convinced him he can sleep on top of the bed instead of under it.

Well, our latest addition was 14 when we got her and she is 15 now. She is truly amazing. I guess it is not a case of "You can't teach an old dog new tricks". You CAN teach an old cat new tricks! I am glad your boy is doing well. Just in the last few months, our girl has decided she likes to sleep right next to my head. Our other girl started doing that this winter too! Now they take turns. Sometimes when they are in the right mood I have one on each side of my head and another on my chest all at the same time.

Pogo likes sleeping in my bed. He comes in here to the office about 9:00 and starts telling me it is time to go to bed.

Yes. She was at a rescue group and needed a home. It was so sad. She had lived with the same family all her life. I can't imagine how she felt being dumped at 14!!
