My Boy Is Home!

My Boy is Home! I am sooo relieved to have the surgery done and have our baby boy home. He had his kidney removed a few days ago and it is wonderful to have that behind us.

He had a carcinoma on his throat removed in May and now this was a sarcoma on his kidney so they had to take the whole kidney. This has been a very rough few months. Now we have to keep him from jumping for 3 weeks which is a huge challenge for a kitty.

The very first day home I turned around and saw him dangling from the window sill since he tried to jump up to get in the sun. So now he has to be in the huge play pen dog crate I got unless we are holding or watching him. He wants to sleep on our laps but we have to be vilent that he doesn't jump down. Each time he wakes up and wants down we have to set him down and offer him food, water and kitty box and then he gets to sleep again.

Hopefully this is the final surgery. He has had so many health problems. Hyperthyroidism which slightly damaged his heart (but caught early enough it should be able to heal), a heart murmur which he has had for many years and doesn't seem to cause any problems, bad teeth and now two kinds of cancer at once. He also has something in his lungs which hasn't caused any problems but could be cancerous. It is so hard since he is the sweetest baby and he is everything to us.

He felt so much better once we got him on the thyroid pills and he seemed to feel better after the first surgery so hopefully he will feel better this time as well.

He can't get to his stitches (the whole length of his belly) so I got kitty onsies and just tried the first one today. He doesn't seem to mind which is shocking since he hates wearing anything. Maybe he is just too tired to care.

Hopefully he is back to his old self soon! He certainly has a great appetite and eats every few hours. That is much better than a few weeks ago when the bad kidney caused a UTI and he was so sick and weak that we needed to feed him and give him water for a week with a plastic syringe.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I hope everything turns out well, Jessica!

Jeff

So far so good Jeff! Thanks!

You're welcome, Jessica! 🙏🙏😹

Kitty has been through so much, poor boy. I do hope all his issues are behind him. Wishing him a speedy recovery!

Thank Melissa! Yes, I hope so.

Glad to see he'll be ok. Jim

Thanks Jim!

So happy to see that your boy is home! Pets are such an important part of our family and lives in general. It must’ve been so scary to have him go through all that trauma. I have one 8 month old cat and a 2 year old dog, who I’ve adopted both, and I cannot imagine having anything bad happen to them.

I have never had a pet have such a major surgery. It is a huge relief to have it over! He had a blood transfusion the day before as well.

Thank you!

So happy! As an animal lover (most animals!), having been a pet owner. It is one of the family!

Good to get so positive news after a strange day here in Iceland! The day started with 15 cm of snow in some places in the middle of the summer!
Next Monday is a business holiday in Iceland, meaning most parts of the nation in big parties all over the country except in the capital.
And from 12.00 to 19.00 was more than 700 watch quakes in 20 minutes driving from me and a warning that a Vulcano (which we know will come, just don´t know when as it can started tonight or after a few years) could start! Yellow warnings and airplanes are letting know to be careful.

So honesty, it was extra good to get positive news like this one! Scratch him behind the ears from me! :)

Ah thank you Johann! I am so glad you are ok too! A few weeks ago I was watching a huge thunderstorm forming and noticed there was wildfire smoke in the air at the same time. Then we also had an earthquake at the same time! I thought "Only in Alaska!" but I guess that should be "Only in Alaska or Iceland!"

Thanks! Good luck with your weather and natural events.
Jessica

Well, we do not have thunderstorm!
Other than that, yes Alaska and Iceland. :)

Until the last few decades there were not thunderstorms here on the coast either. Now they are very common! It is part of climate change! The inland parts of the state always had them however. They occurred where I grew up.

Yes, it must be difficult to be in them.
This day has been crazy here. A lot of strong quakes! It is 3.41 at night, but I have been shaken twice. And today, it was 5.4 with an unusual lot of damage (houses in Iceland are built for more than 7).
We are waiting to see if it will end in Vulcano or not. First, it was unlikely, but now it is only 1,1 kilometers under the ground! 9 of 10 periods like this end not with Vulcano, but it looks like it is very short to the next one.
It is in 20 minutes driving from me but if the lava comes up in the wrong place it can cut a big and important part of the county!
It has been thousand of quakes from lunch. most little but powerful.
Sorry, I guess it is better to be not reply when quakes is going in :)

Wow, I hope you are ok and you do not have much damage from the quakes and of course from lava!!

We have volcanos too but none as close as yours I guess. Ours are close enough we can see them in the distance across Cook Inlet but we never have to worry about lava!

I am fine.
Today we have had 10.000 quakes, but most of the very small.
Scientists say it probably will be very soon, at the latest in September.
People in the village closest have been told to have all ready to leave in a suitcase.
There has been damage to the cold water, so I guess I will get some food in the house.
But I´m fine, no problem!!!

Oh wow. I’m glad you are ok! How far away from you is the village that has to be ready to leave?

44 kílómeter.
Sorry, it was 10.000 since Saturday.

Wow, that is pretty close! Our closest volcano is 80 miles away. There is another that erupted more recently that is a little further away. There are quite a few in Alaska.

But close to town/village? The experience people have, if it is close, is so important to prepare and know what you should do and not to do.

It has been no stop last 4 hours! Many bigger than 4.

But like I said, I´m fine. Going to sleep now and shaking my in asleep! :)

Here is an image of the last 48 hours.

There are a few communities closer but they are separated from the volcano by Cook Inlet which is an ocean inlet. There are no communities close enough to be in immediate danger. There are oil and gas facilities closer however such as drilling platforms and pipelines. One was built on an old mudflow from a volcano but they have shut that down I think.

The greatest danger to us is from the earthquakes and the heavy ash that falls. The ash is dangerous for airplanes as well.

It has not happened in decades but inches of ash can fall here and historically feet of ash fell in some parts of Alaska.

I am anxious to hear how this turns out for you!

Good luck tonight!

Jessica

Please don´t be anxious about me! I´m fine. We have built up an experience and know this or that! :)
I had a girlfriend who moved to Reykjavik, the capital. When this started more than two years ago, she was anxious too. But I told her that one of the things scientist and the government was worried about was that Icelanders would drive directly to the Vulcano to see it :)
And offer her to do that ;)

I started thinking a few minutes ago that I hope that I had not scared you and your man, so you changed your mind about coming to Iceland!

That is no reason for that.

But of course, it is not a good feeling to have all these quakes and Remember your experience of it. But all houses are built for the possibility of for than seven on Richter. I have been in 2 x 6,5, and one 6,3, and not much damage was.

To tell you the truth, most Icelanders were so tired of the quakes before the Vulcano that they wanted to change on it for a Vulcano :) I´m included.

Scientists say it will probably be 10-20 Vulcanos in the next 100-200 years with long pauses.

But tonight I will sleep without a problem, no problem! But thank you for thinking!

Our earthquake a few years ago was 7.1 and it was centered close to us so I know how it feels. Our buildings withstand them well here too.

It does not scare us from visiting!

Sorry, but you were so kind to think about the cases here in Iceland.
So I just wanted to let you know one important thing: there is no reason to worry about me!
I wanted to let you know that it will likely be 2 vulcanos started in the next few days; maybe not, but we have had an official warning!
One is a little problem in the biggest glacier, Vatnajokull.
The others are around 30 kilometers from me. I just wanted to let you know that I will be safe and fine, but we could miss the connection.
It has been unusual big quakes, and last night was crazy! One of the worst for a long time, I managed to sleep at 6. It was much worse after we stopped talking!
But all houses in Iceland are ready for things like that!
So my big friend, don´t worry, be happy!

I just wanted you to know about it!

Thank you for letting me know! If I don't hear from you hopefully it is just that you don't have a connection.

Good luck!!

Jessica

Thank you!
Yes, it is 100% the reason, I am not in danger when it start.
Normally scientist talk about weeks, but now days/week because the lava is on doubble speed and only kilometer under the ground.
Of course it is not 100% it will be but it is very likely.
The location could be much worse. Ca 15-20 kilometers would have been much worse.
It is unlikely that I miss connection but possible. It is on big place about that and water.
But it could easily be very powerful, because speed and huge lava. It is 50.000.000 square meters.
Now are I watching the place and it is a lot of gas there, plus some strange things.
Plus now are very few and little quakes which have been sign from this place.
Sorry for a long post!

It is very interesting to get these updates Johann! Thank you! You should do a post here for everyone to see!

All my energy goes to my sites and sport. I have so little after an accident a long time ago.

And it is started. Will go there if I can, but we'll see.
