Yes, you are right. However, the organic way takes years unless you know exactly what people would read your articles loyally and on Medium, that is not so easy. Maybe if you stick to just one or two topics or niches, you could start earning over $100 in a few months, but you need a strategy. For example, you will need to publish in the right publications to be seen.

It may also help to follow a few of the writers who get lots of comments and see what they write about and their writing style.

You have some good points here, and I agree with you. Besides, you can also promote affiliate products on Medium, just ensure you put a disclaimer in the article somewhere. There are quite a few writers who are doing well with this approach, and Medium has a very high DA so if you don't use a custom domain, you will benefit greatly from the medium dot com domain to get ranked high in the SERPs, provided that you use good keywords.

But don't change your profile URL, leave it on the default. It is the biggest mistake many writers make to change it to a custom domain that is unknown to Google. Medium has a DA of 95% which is sky high!

Don't leave the Medium Parnter Program, you will still earn a bit and over time you may likely earn more. My country is not yet supported by Stripe, so it is hard to find someone who could add their banking details to my Stripe account. I am even willing to share the profits with such a person.

Believe me, Hein there is no profit on Medium. My first payout was 11 dollars, I received 7.50 dollars after they calculated the taxes and stripe took its commission. It is not worthy at all!

As I mentioned before, quite a few of my fellow writers earn hundreds of dollars per month. They sometimes show their stats on Medium and/or Substack. Yana Bostongirl made $700 this month and she consistently makes such amounts. Many of them make nearly $1000 or more.

How long have you been on Medium? You need to understand that it takes quite some time to build a good following. It took me months to start making good money, and eventually I made around $100 to $400 per month, every month, until they revoked the MPP because of Stripe issues. I would have made a lot more by now, but I don't currently write there as I am too busy.

You can write about the same things you write on here and on your website's blog, but only give them a taste and answer one quick question or solve a small problem, then put a CTA to your blog article or YouTube video where you can further nurture them.

I see that Hein already gave you a perfect answer! I want to add that - only by writing with consistency - you will naturally understand the topics you will love the most.

So, in the starting phase, don't overthink too much: you could write about your college challenges, technical problems you could solve with your expertise, just personal thoughts.

I struggle with a mindset of abundance. I feel there is never enough time to do all the things I want. And every so often I just decide that none of it really matters - it only matters to me. I am retired - I could sit in front of the TV all day or sit in a café reading magazines. But that's not 'me'.
