We are all here for making some money, aren’t we?

I don’t know if there are people who are here just for the pleasure of making social connections and for writing as a hobby but the vast majority of us here are for the moolah.

There are so many legitimate ways to make money online –

  • Online betting
  • Paid online surveys
  • Online market trading
  • Blogging
  • Review website and apps for money
  • Publish a Kindle eBook
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Network Marketing or Multi-Level Marketing (MLM)
  • Online Data Entry
  • Gigs on Fiverr
  • Buy and sell domain names
  • Sell your own courses (at Udemy and other avenues)
  • Sell photos
  • Freelance work (writing, managing Facebook pages, etc.)
  • YouTube videos
  • Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies

There are lots more. Depending on how much time and energy you can dedicate, each of the above ways can be scaled up to make a sizeable profit online.

But if it is earning “passive income” (the earn-while-you-are-sleeping kind) you’re looking at, then you would create a website and try to monetise it. It could be done in many ways – ads, sale of affiliate products, sale of your own products or providing business leads.

You create a nice website, write amazing content, do SEO, promote your blog and let the traffic flow in. It could take you a few months or more than a year to see some result (the traffic) but once everything clicks, it’s an amazing way to create income online. This is what is being taught here in Wealthy Affiliate.

But you have seen that earning through a website or blogging is just one of the ways to making money online.

When you enter the online business world as a newbie, you are mostly clueless about making money online. At best, your knowledge is limited to making money through a website. However, in time, you are exposed to many other business opportunities. You get yourself acquainted to the various online business opportunities including high-paying MLM business.

As a beginner, as you are bombarded with all these informations on how to make money online, you can get easily overwhelmed. You get confused too.

You start your online adventure with a newly-created website and learn how to drive traffic to your website but in between, there are all these distractions too.

And when the traffic does not pick up as expected and when there are no sales or referrals happening, you kind of get disheartened and begin questioning if this was worth it. I mean, you have been spending an insane amount of time in front of the computer and yet nothing is happening even after having written many posts.

It is at this juncture that you’re most vulnerable to big time distractions. I will refrain from calling them shiny objects but you might be tempted to try other gigs. You have realised that making money through a website (affiliate marketing) is damn hard. It’s just too compettitive. After all, at the end of the day it’s about making money, isn’t it?

Ask yourself this question – is it affiliate marketing that you’re looking at? It will never be easy but you need to be very clear with what you want to do.

I do not mean to discourage people but one has to confront with this hard question someday. After all, we only have twenty-four hours in a day. We want to utilise our time optimally.

Having different streams of income will be possible when you get more experience and when you have tasted some measure of success in an activity. For a newbie, trying to create multiple income streams from early on is akin to having one’s fingers in too many pies.

Focus on ONE activity only.

If it is affiliate marketing and making money from affiliate sales and referrals, so be it.

If it is through online trading, well that’s great.

If it is MLM (MLMs can be through a website too in many cases), so be it.

But let it be a single activity.

Let’s not have an early burnout, friends.

Very true!
Thanks for sharing.

Hello Sukumar,

I agree completely about focusing on one activity at a time, especially as a newcomer to online business. You really can burn out if you try to do too much and go in too many directions at once. I know because it has happened to me...more than once.

Thanks for the reminder and fo sharing this post.

Sue

Let's avoid having early burnouts :)

Thanks for sharing.

It is important to focus on just one thing at a time.

Derek

Yes, one thing at a time :)

Great post, I think we should try to focus on something we love to work with and know a lot about this niche. Now if that is not possible then we can do research on whatever interests us other wise.
As you say there are many niches to work with but stick with one to get your business off the ground then branch out, by then you will probably have quite a few ideas going ahead.

In our desperation to see some money on board, we, as beginners are tempted to try other money-making methods and end up being neither-here-nor-there. But it's always better to focus on a single activity and get your business off the ground. And after you get some measure of success and get the hang of it, then maybe you can, as you say, branch out. Thanks for your comment, Wayne.

Well written!
Focus on one thing at a time. This will minimize burnout.
Thank you for posting!

Yeah, focus on one activity rather than thinning out on many activities at one time.

Great discussion to start. The bottom line is what brings the super vast majority of us here. Staying focused, staying the course are what we should strive for.

One of the toughest fights in our online journey with ourselves only. It's an ongoing struggle against distractions.

This is exactly where I am right now, being distracted and getting confused by other possibilities . Thankyou for getting me focused back on my original goal, good advice!

It's never wise to get distracted from your main activity. There are opportunities galore but it pays to focus on one activity only in the beginning.
