Choosing a Website Theme."Comedy Central"

Yep, comedy-central seems apt. :=)

As someone who loves to laugh at himself, I seem to have stumbled upon yet another episode of "Slapstick Comedy".

The "theme" for today: Website Themes (pun intended).

After using WA's default "Twenty-Thirteen" theme since the start of my journey here, I decided today to change to something more appealing, eye-catching.

But, after browsing the hundreds of themes out there, I found myself wondering if "20-13" is the best there is (LOL). I simply can't find any theme to match my website's outlook. Maybe I'm being too picky; but, I was never one to procrastinate, or "ponder-for-yonder", so to speak. I make decisions fast. If there was a theme out there, I'd snap it up without wasting time.

My niche is "Travel", which should have made is easier, seeing as there are 46 Travel Themes on offer. But, nope )))) No such luck. If a theme caught my fancy, it turned out to be rather awkward (completely screwing up my website's layout). If it could handle my layout, it was not pleasant to even look at.

The one theme which did catch my eye was "Travel Guide". Unfortunately, it snipped off certain portions of my menus :=)))))

And, thus, with a heavy heart, and laughter in my brain, I am reverting back to good ol' "20-13".

Just curious : anyone else felt rather silly not being able to pick one theme from thousands?? I certainly did!

That's funny and sad at the same time:) Usually, when clients ask to update their websites with more modern theme, I use a customer support of the company, where I'm going to search for a suitable theme;) It saves much time! The support knows their products better.

I know this is an old blog post but I had exactly the same problem and totally gave up with the free theme route. I found a theme a few years back that I could truly use to customise a site in pretty much any way I want. It is no longer as cheap as it was I have an unlimited license with free ongoing support (No longer offered).

The Theme I use is called Dynamik (cobaltapps dot com)
It uses the Genesis framework - Separate Purchase.

I just thought I would mention it as it might be suitable for someone with your knowledge, background and if you wanted to build a number of sites. It certainly would not be suitable for a beginner due to the vast amount of configuration options, including css and php builders.

Just thought I would drop in and mention it. I have no associations with either of the companies concerned.

Wishing you every success.

Dave

Much appreciated, Dave :=)

Thanks

it can be a time consuming task, I am happy with what I have did struggle when changing my very first site , did the same thing eventually I found the one I like just as good

Jay made an interesting comment in a webinar. He uses the same theme for all of his websites. It saves time trying to learn new ones and you become expert with your theme. Makes good sense, I thought.

Best theme and you can be surprised how good and professional you can make it look when people see my site they always say wow what a great looking site but took a lot of work so please have a look and tell me what you think http://perkune.com
Best regards. Paul

That's an interesting theme, Paul.

Which one is it? :=)

Hi Steve 23/13 but I am still playing around with ideas

I'll give it a go now :=)

I swapped themes so many times I lost count and there was something that bothered me about each one of them. Eventually I just settled for what was closest to what I wanted. Of course, I was only going through free themes and I am sure if I wanted to pay for one, it would be different.

What I found hard is finding a theme that works in Google Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge. One theme would totally cut off my side bar in Google Chrome & then on Microsoft Edge, I found the side bar at the bottom of the page. It did work good in Firefox. I still have to find a theme for one of my sites as it doesn't come up right on Google Chrome. Glad to here you found the theme you like.

Actually, Darlene, my theme found me :=)))

After searching "far and wide", I ended up simply going back to the default theme I had to begin with, anyway (lol)

Kinda reminds me of the old adage : "........you travel far and wide, in search of God-knows-what, only to return home and find what you've been looking for...." (hehe)

I know where you are coming from. I spent 2 days playing around with themes until I found my current one. I have had the same theme for 8 months now but have started thinking it needs to change again as my website develops. But I am not going to do it right now.
