Just a thought.

Are we being serious with the whole “I don’t care about WA rankings” or are we just telling ourselves that do we don’t feel overwhelmed?

I am “almost” completely sure that we do, in fact, care about ratings. About trying to be on the top best maybe to earn more respect or authority. Regardless of that, yes it’s a nice feeling when your rankings start escalating into something that you didn’t even know it was possible. After that, what’s next?

Of course, you’ll be someone more trustworthy in the community and with new beginners, but besides wanting to help people, what do you really want to achieve when you get into that blue list?

We often focus more on this platform (me included) and I leave my website on the site because this platform is really time consuming. You’ll get a badge, a top x and more authority, which is a great feeling; but what’s more to it?

I love helping everyone here but it’s not fair for my website not to get the attention it deserves.

Help, but also have boundaries.

I agree with what you are saying. It is so easy to get distracted reading everybody’s opinion on something. I contribute back with lots of opinions and encouragement, but with little if any of the technical knowledge I have learned. I need to focus more on my training and my website, but this place is so addicting. I have given myself a shut down time of 11:00 pm cst and now it is 11:36 and I’m still pecking away. Well good night until around 10:00 am cst.

Have a blessed time
Charlotte

Maybe you can do both! Example: Say you have six hours of free time and you can say for 30 mins or 1 hour goes to helping people. The other five goes to your website. I think your website comes in first and helping people arrives in second, from what you mean.

Some spend this much in this area and that amount of time in that area. What is important to you?

Of course, it all depends on the person’s priorities. Balance is not something everyone is good at, so it can take some time.

My priority is my website, but since I haven’t really been motivated nor inspired to write anything (writer’s block) so, I just spent my time here.

Stephanie, you are right. Focus on your goals and priorities. We will also quench that social need in us to engage. Of course, some love the gaming part, badges and ranking. I spend a bit of time blogging with a purpose. I am developing a habit and also improving my writing. I have combines several blogs here to be a bigger article for my website too. The comments I receive here are very helpful as a means for continuous improvement. Yes, the “D” word, it can be a distraction as you pointed out.

Could not agree with you more, Stanley! It’s great being in the top x and having that type of authority, not to mention engaging with other people in the community helps you a lot and at the same time you’re using your learned knowledge to help others. I think we just need to have a higher focus on our websites than being too depending on rankings. Im pretty sure most of us (including me) spend way more time here than with our actual websites. In my opinion and from my part, I want to get more authority regarding my bussiness than worrying about my rankings

Fully agree 👍🏼👍🏼 Both thumbs up!

You are so right, Stephanie, we do care even though we are trying to tell to ourselves we don't. I realized it myself, it was exciting when I hit top200 and then 100. But then I told to myself enough, I really have to focus on my website because that's what's supposed to bring me money, not a rank. I keep telling it to myself yet it's still a nice feeling to see the rank improved :)
But I'm not chasing it.
Have a beautiful day, pretty girl!
Lenka

Yes Lenka! That is exactly my point.

It’s nice being at the top x but that may distract us from our focus on our website. Being active within the community is one of my favorite things. I learn so much from everyone and I also get to help other with the knowledge I’ve gained in this platform. But I came to realize that I have been engaging too may here trying to get a higher ranking and I have left my website just sitting there. I don’t want to be overly dependent on rankings, I just want a successful bussiness.

I find that being an active part of this community has provided me with an endless supply of inspiration which in turn has enabled me to explore areas in regard to my sites that I am sure would not have happened were I not engaged as I am.
I found 'writing' quite late on in life and now that I have found it, I relish all opportunities to hone that skill set. Whereas before I was an avid reader of books, now I am reading posts by like-minded people who generally share similar goals. I have merely replaced one with another.
Part of my own personal ethos even before joing WA was 'paying it forward' and now to be part of a platform that has that as its own underlying ideology is a perfect match.
We each have to find the balance that works for us and our own personal ambition. Those scales can tip one way or another depending on how we are navigating through life.
There will be times when we become more involved in the community becasue we have reached a plateau with our websites and of course the opposite will also be true. Our rank may well be just a reflection of that, if that's how we choose to see it. Some will see it as more, some as less.

Great points all, Twack!

Jeff

Thank you Jeff, much appreciated.

Well said, Twack, when I'm thinking about me and my way at WA I probably needed to start posting here to become confident more not only with writing but also get used to express my deepest thoughts and share them with public. WA is helping me with writing a lot. And I love the atmosphere here. At one moment I was angry with myself to spend too much time here but it was mainly because I felt I was getting addicted to WA :) And I don't like addictions. Like you're saying, it's about finding the balance.

I could not agree more with you. I love helping others and being active in the community because it made me reflect what I have learned here and pay it forward to others. That leads to making great connections with people whichbis amazing, but aside from that, I think that being too concerned with rankings may disappoint you or mislead you into losing focus on your actual website. Well, at least those are my thoughts lol

Thank you Lenka, our paths run parallel in many ways. Here was my first exploration into writing. Doing so in front of an audience of experienced entrepreneurs and writers was daunting, to say the least but necessary and in some ways cathartic.
As most of our websites are based around content creation, being able to write and publish within the platform can only help improve our skills and in turn the quality of our content. One woul dhope, anyway.

Therin lies the discipline needed I think. We all have different paths to follow and finding that balance is not always easy. It is down to the individual to decide where and how they allocate their time and efforts.
