When people ask what you do.
I was just at my old gym where I used to work a few years back as I have joined as a member and bumped into some old faces. Started chatting and one of then said, what are you doing at the moment?! In which I responded and went 'oh erm Internet marketing stuff' - it wasnt a full blown convo, more of a quick hi what's going on in your life!
So when I left I was wondering about what I would say in a quick not going into detail conversation...
How do you guys explain to people in those quick catch up conversations what it is you do?
I'm intrigued to hear your feedback :)

If somebody ask me what I do.. this is my answer as it describes what all of us do basically:
Hey glad you ask, I am an online - Entrepreneur and am a member of multiple professional communities, supporting and serving others to reach their goals and dreams. As it happens I have serveral projects online so simply connect to me on facebook and I guide you through :-D
Stefan, we just engaged in a conversation about your blog regarding thoughts and then I come here and find such an awesome answer you left here for Star. See, even if your command of the English isn't perfect, it is perfect enough to get a message across as powerful as this one. Again, thanks so much for sharing.

When I first started, I would also say I'm doing affiliate marketing or internet marketing. But now I just say that I build websites and work at home.
I would just say "I make money online" and leave it at that, if they are intrigued, they will try to get more info from you. This way round you don't come across as salesy or markety. Just say enough to pique their interest (it saves u time and effort too!)
Maybe say, "oh I don't have a job now", but smile broadly when you say it - this will make them interested, an hey, u might even get a referral if you do it right!!!

Yep Jim, think im going to keep it as simple as that...! Its just the negativity people tie to 'working from home'... makes me want to take a big nap!
This is a problem me and some of the other successfull WA members deal with. People use to think I either sold drugs or was engaged in some other type of shady activity because I was always home working on my blog rather than having a 9-5. People can grasp that you build websites. So I just started saying I work with Google and that usually was enough. Lol
Its crazy how people start assuming.... id say there is a little envious streak in them because they dont have that same working life !
You not alone. I have told them that I make money online. Their first reaction is "what " that is a scam, I need to watch out. So I am looking forward to hear what the rest of the community says. I am glad they never asked how much
At the moment I'm having two jobs and work about 25 - 35 hours per week while finishing university. So usually I just go with that. It's hard to tell people about internet marketing and trying to make money online. Everyone is used to having a full-time job and sitting in some office from 9 to 5, so whenever you go into a different direction, you will have to explain or even justify what it is that you're doing. Has "internet marketing stuff" worked out for you? Or will people dig deeper? I read Tim Ferriss' "Four Hour Work Week", he wrote that he used to answer "I sell drugs" when people asked what he does :-D
I also have another part time job (really to pay basic bills) and focusing the rest on this, its just those short quick convos I get stumped on. I was going to look at that book actually, thats a great answer re drugs! Might have to use it :)

Thanks for posting this question SStar. You have learned enough to ask a question which will allow you to utilize the power of thought processes of many to incorporate into your own individual style. That is part of the whole success process. . . To tap into the wealth of knowledge of those around you. Thanks for sharing. My best to you.

Thanks Dan, its been 3 weeks but im getting there :)
Im so serious about making a success of things here and I have good faith I will :)
All the best :)
Shuk, as I read through many of the replies to your question I see so many good responses. I also see that you are right in that you can incorporate many of these, even take bits and pieces, until you come up with what works for you. One thing I believe for sure is that the reason you probably stumbled was/is simply that it is fairly new to you (like all this is to me) and the more you get experience with it the more confidant you become. You are taking steps necessary to learn so I know you will accomplish amazing things !!! Much continued success to you.
