What I do straight after publishing a post in 10 steps
I decided to get organised and consistent so I can make sure I'm doing everything possible to get my posts out there. From what I've learnt so far I've put together this list. I'm sure there are more things you can do but these ones seem the most important to me.
AFTER PUBLISHING YOUR POST CHECKLIST
- Internal Links
Create 2 internal links from other posts on your website to your new post - External Links
Create 1 or 2 links to authoritative sites eg wikipedia.com - somewhere informative but not somewhere that drives your traffic away. I don't do this for every post. - Ask for Comments in WA
In Feedback Lesson
GIve and Take Content Writing
Site Comment Requests - Share on Social Media
Do this after you've got some comments through WA
Google + / Facebook / Pinterest / Twitter - Pinging
Join reddit or digg and put your posts there.
reddit.com
digg.com - Build more followers in Social Media & Email Subscribing
Google + / Facebook / Pinterest / Twitter
If you have an Email Subscribe on your site (I use Mailchimp) you can build more followers to a list this way (mine is already set up to inform subscribers of new posts). Make sure joining the list is obvious and visible and that some of your posts are about making conversions from your post to subscribe to your site. - Join groups related to your niche on social media
You can offer quality comments on their sites and ask to return favour - Bing & Google Webmaster
Check tools for errors on your website and correct them - Use Fetch in Google & Bing Webmaster
Using Fetch makes sure that it is done if you're not sure if your sitemap is updating after each post.
Google Webmaster: in search console > Crawl > Fetch as Google > put in your post url > Fetch
Bing Webmaster: Dashboard > Diagnostics & Tools > Fetch as Bingbot > enter url > Fetch - Check Google Analytics weekly
So strictly this step doesn't have to be done after each post but it's good practice to keep tabs on what's going on.
If you've got any other ideas or steps I can add let me know as it's always great to hear what other people have put in place.

Wow, Sophie...a lot to follow up on!
Thank you so much for detailing these secondary manoeuvres...I think so many of us here at WA will benefit from it!:)
Great list for making your post inst-SEO ready. After a few months, I revisit old posts and 'tweak' it as well.

Oh wow I wasn't doing any of this stuff, just writing and submitting! Thanks for this great info! Also I am following now, I would be a fool not to. Clearly you know what you are doing.
