How to embed spreadsheets, PDFs and other documents in Wordpress posts and pages
A few days ago one of my followers asked me how she can embed a PDF file in her blog in order to make it available for others not only to view it, but to download it as well ...
Well, I've made some research, and of course there is a solution ...
I'm talking about a cool plugin called Google Doc Embedder, which will allow you to easily embed a wide range of file formats in your Wordpress website.
And before you ask - despite its name - the plugin doesn't require you to have a Google Docs account ... It simply uses the Google Docs Viewer feature to display various files types on your site.
Speaking of file types ... Currently the plugin supports the following file formats:
- Adobe Acrobat (PDF)
- Microsoft Word (DOC/DOCX*)
- Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT/PPTX*)
- Microsoft Excel (XLS/XLSX*)
- TIFF Images (TIF, TIFF)
- Apple Pages (PAGES)
- Adobe Illustrator (AI)
- Adobe Photoshop (PSD)
- Autodesk AutoCad (DXF)
- Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)
- PostScript (EPS/PS)
- OpenType/TrueType Fonts (OTF, TTF)
- XML Paper Specification (XPS)
- Archive Files (ZIP/RAR)
And just to clear the air: the plugin will allow you to embed all these file types directly into your post or page (allowing inline viewing and optional downloading), not requiring the user to have any Microsoft Word, Adobe Reader, PowerPoint, Flash or PDF browser plug-ins, or other software installed in order to view the contents.
Sounds cool, isn't it?
This is why I've decided to create a short tutorial, where I will show you how easy is to embed PDFs, Microsoft Word documents, PowerPoint slides, Excel sheets and various other file types in your Wordpress website.
Here it is:
