Daily Facts - Day #40: Billion dollar niches - Survival, camping, & outdoors
When it comes to niches that are driven purely by emotion, very few are able to compete with the survivalist and prepper industries. Both are driven primarily by fear, which makes it incredibly easy to make money if you’re able to deliver on the promises you make and provide high quality solutions to the problems that people in the market are having.
Survivalists tend to have multiple different fears that drive their purchasing behaviors. Any time there is a terrorist attack in the world, sales spike. Whenever a government changes hands, sales spike. When there is a report of a mass murder, sales spike. Pretty much, any time a person’s future may be in jeopardy, sales spike.
That means you have plenty of opportunities to work in new content, based around events that are happening around the world. There are also thousands of products that you can create content around ...
It’s not just doomsday preppers that make up the market, though. While they do represent a fairly large portion of the total number of people that participate, a lot of other common occurrences are responsible for people wanting to ensure their family’s safety over the long haul, should something drastic happen.
Natural disasters happen around the world on a regular basis. Tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes, flash floods, forest fires, and a wide range of other natural catastrophes would require people to stockpile food and survival items to ensure that their family is able to remain safe until civilization returns to normal.
According to BrandBuilders ...
- More than 4 million Americans currently participate in survival and doomsday prepping in one form or another.
- Of those 4 million Americans, people spend, on average, $400 per year, making this a massive industry that is continuing to grow.
- The market sees intense spikes during times of unrest, and natural disasters.
- The market is expected to grow by more than 15% per year.
When you’re looking to enter into a niche, finding one that is driven by emotions is one of the best moves that you can make. There are very few industries that are driven primarily by emotion, though, especially as intensely as people who actively participate in prepping and the survival lifestyle.
The amount of money that each person spends on preparing themselves for the future easily trumps other industries, making this one of the most profitable on this list.
In my opinion is an excellent niche ...
In fact, I'm starting to consider a new affiliate site ...

I'm with you here, this one might be a good mine... Plus, preppers have to shave too!
Thanks for sharing this with me to post with us Zed, I appreciate it!
Since I'm one of those people who follows the Boy Scout motto of always being prepared, this might be a niche I could work. I've been known to buy some prepper gear now and again. I never thought of it as my niche before but I will certainly reconsider. Thanks for the heads up.
What you said is unfortunately true, preying on peoples emotions is and will always be a driving force.
This sounds an amazing niche! With the number of potential customers and the money they are willing to spend, this has got to be worth a go.
Thanks
Justin
I hadn't considered this, what a great idea for a niche!

Thought provoking. I'm in New Zealand and we tend to have quite a few earthquakes so even discounting some of the more lunatic fringe ideas that are out there, it makes sense to take some practical preparatory steps - food, water, power, a family plan, chemical toilet and a temporary shelter just to name a few. Clearly a rich vein of opportunity !!
Thanks Mike!
