In general, technology and gadgets is a highly competitive industry that doesn’t leave much room for the smaller guys and gals to make their way in and compete against the big dogs.

However, there is one subsection of the technology industry that is taking off, with plenty of room for smaller competitors to make their way in and take a piece of the pie.

The drone and helicopter industry is booming, after being nearly non-existent before 2009.

Since 2009, the industry has exploded with both enthusiasts and high end video recording companies realizing exactly how much fun and how powerful these remote controlled vehicles are.

These small flying machines are controlled from the ground using a remote that allows the operator to make them move wherever they want. The industry has been growing worldwide, becoming so big that government agencies have begun to intervene and place limits on the types and sizes of vehicles that consumers can own.

According to BrandBuilders ...

  • The current market size produces more than $11 billion in yearly revenue
  • By 2020, the market is forecast to produce more than $140 billion in total sales
  • By 2025, the industry is expected to employ more than 100,000 people
  • More than $40 million is being invested annual by US venture firms alone
  • Core consumers are between 35 and 39 years of age, with the next group being between 12 and 18 years of age
  • The market consists of 70% men and 30% women
  • 80% of the industry are based around personally owned drones and helicopters, with 20% making up the video recording industry.
  • As time goes on, the video recording industry will make up more of the market, spending nearly 500% more on high quality gear than personal consumers will.

With so many new products being released every year, I'd say that the options are almost unlimited ...

In my opinion is definitely a gem!

I know the military are making good use of drone but I just mean for common people like us.

See the answer below

Technology in general, in my opinion, offers great opportunity for making big income now and in the future but one question I have for you Smartketeer is some time ago I heard about using this to deliver mails to people. Not sure if that worked, how can the government monitor to ensure safety of this drone. What are the uses to common people aside from toys?

These are good questions. Drones can be a problem, too.

In Northern California, the firefighting airplanes have to be grounded if a drone is spotted in the areas that the airplanes have to fly.

But with technology to follow and film you, I can see a lot of great uses for drones that bring the concept of selfies up a notch.

In some parts of the world, the drones and helicopters are banned from being flown, while other areas are placing restrictions on the time of day and the heights they can be flown at.

Hate to DRONE on and on...but you are right! :)

Thanks Zed. Incisive and facts based.
Question for you: for our business model, what are the prospects to deliberately position for the big dollar spend in this niche? Do you see big corporations (who are accountable for the big spend) making more deals online (which benefits affiliate marketing) rather than B2B as most already do today through traditional contracts and procurement teams?
Thanks.
alex

In this niche I'd vote for the latter ...

The big corporations are focusing on military-level, etc niche segments that are basically inpenetrable for the B2B segment

Hmn! Got ya. Interesting.
Will sure keep an eye on this.
It’ll also be interesting to see how much there is in the ‘drone as a toy’ sub-segment. This is probably the most likely consumer group that would find and buy online.

Thanks Zed.

Thank YOU!

I reviewed underwater drones on my website and it drew better traffic than most of my posts.

Sounds good :)

Ok.
You wanna share a link?
Thanks.
alex

I don't want to break spamming rules here. Can you just go to my profile and in the right-hand column is my website address where you can click on the underwater drones category? Thanks.

Thanks for sharing Zed

Thanks Michael!

Great post, great idea! Thanks for the information!

Thanks for your time and your feedback Michael!

Everyone is using these things to shoot commercials with now, I think it is a great niche to get involved with! This is the only one so far that I've actually thought of myself already haha Probably because all the "guru's" I've been looking at use these to show off their mansions haha

You'll need a mansion too :)

You know Zed, this niche is the perfect example of watching everyday, everywhere for "trends". This wasn't even on the radar as a niche not very long ago. Great post.

Thanks Mark!

You could be onto something!

I'll take it as a yes :)
