Gone Premium! Next step... WORDPRESS!!

So just went the "info-overload" had started to settle down I went ahead and upgraded to Premium...WOW!

The amount of resources I've just unlocked is incredible! I have just watched the welcome video that runs through the premium features and I'm excited...almost wish my job had ended already so I could focus on this full time - there is so much to learn!

I have a bit of experience with GoDaddy for blogging and have used their website builder and e-commerce plug-in. I found it quite "clunky" unless you know CSS to modify parts of it (this, CSS and HTML, is on the "to-learn" list by the way...). After a WA member helped explain a bit more about an approach I might be able to take it looks like Wordpress is still the optimal choice. I was a little bit disappointed (being honest) because I wanted to use Squarespace, like a magpie (yes a bird) I was attracted to their shiny new toys I could play with! But realise this is the easy way out which may not benefit me in the long run. Long story short I was being lazy, it was an easy transition from GoDaddy to Squarespace as the tools are a similar.

But then I stopped myself in my tracks as I realised my progress-limiting-attitude (being lazy!). So a quick change of mindset from "man, that sounds like a lot of work" to "wow, I get to learn a new skill with Wordpress" renewed my enthusiasm - so this small change of outlook feels like a little triumph in itself!

I've been looking at online tuts (mainly youtube) for Wordpress tutorials, which I've realised I no longer need to - premium has so many tuts and discussions!

So my task is moving my already established site and online store to over to Wordpress!

I'm thinking I will use the bootcamp and/or a different niche to "practice" setting up things in Wordpress first, to allow for mistakes that WILL be made so that I can learn!

Have you had experience with other website builders and platforms? How did you find the transition?

How are you going with learning Wordpress?

Hi Sarah.

If it helps take the sting out a little - I was a computer games programmer when I left school in the late 80's - I got into web programming around 98, and did web applications etc - and always thought that bespoke was the way to go.

For certain applications, it still is - and that will always be in my back pocket (that I can program in .net or MVC or whatever). But it's only in recent weeks, that I came to understand that programming and building a website for information, are two completely different areas.

No-one who visits a website as a visitor, cares what powers that website - all they care about is the information on it. And as far as Wordpress goes - although I HATE to admit it, it is a brilliant platform for just getting your content up and out there. I still feel I should be "programming", but for what WA teaches you, it's not necessary. I'll still program a website for specific requests, but when it comes to niches, information and affiliate marketing, I'm looking no further than Wordpress and WA from now on.

All the best,

Mark

Thanks Mark, that's some very comprehensive and insightful info - appreciate the reply.

You make a good point when you mention that viewers aren't fussed with what the site is built with - for them it's all about the UI - will keep your comments in mind as I progress. thanks again :)

Sarah, congrats! Wonderful to have you here at WA and I know you are going to love Premium. I look forward to working with you and hearing about your success going forward :)

Thanks @msdj8163 - Will sing out if I hit a snag - how are you finding the bootcamp?
