Being Brave - Standing Alone

Hello my Fellow Entrepreneurs,

There is a resilience about being able to stand alone!

A lot of the big issues that kids face today is that they are not encouraged to go out alone and explore their world.

And for some obvious reasons that the complex social environment is no longer proactive for a friendly neighbourhood.

Children very rarely come outside of their homes these days, unless they are jumping into a car to travel somewhere.

I have fond memories of often taking my bicycle off into the streets of my local neighbourhood. Exploring my surroundings alone.

Also wrapping on my boot roller skates and skating down hills alone that were close to where my childhood house was.

(Picture of green roller skates)

Currently 2023 , in my town here in Yeppoon Queensland Australia, we are fortunate enough to have some kids play parks and swimming pools for the community and they are frequented quite regularly.

I do acknowledge that when I am talking about children I am expressing teenage year old children from the age of 14 up!

But in saying that I also want to express in the home a younger child needs to spend some time alone with their environment too. Exploring in a safe space!

The real issue is that we have generations of kids that are not brave to stand alone.

Being brave builds character in a person, it builds communication strategies without using the social norm of drinking alcohol or drugs for social connections.

Being brave gives way for a child to navigate their surroundings using thinking and analysation of their situations.

Too many children are consumed with social media watching things that are really demonstrating the wrong message to their juvenile minds.

Children need to compare themselves with managing their own emotions and regulating their moods without the addiction of watching something on TV or social media.

And often movies do not portray the art of being brave, as most of the acting is done with unrealistic notions of super powers.

When realising that sometimes standing alone is growth, we can help our children by leading by example.

What I have discovered every time I go out into the world alone and explore is something wonderful is possible of happening.

Today I ventured outside to the beach which is across the road from where I live and I discovered that heaps of new things and feelings happened to me.

A man walking crossed my path just as I was about to return home and said "Hello, I am waiting for the sunrise" and left me thinking I will stay some more time.

In which choosing to stay, I captured some totally awesome sunrise pictures.

You are correct that it is important to learn to stand alone. I was pampered and protected during too much of my early years. Rebellion eventually set in, and I am glad, because have now been alone for many years and I enjoy it. Never lonely; never bored; always challenged. Perhaps I'm one of the lucky ones. You speak truth.

1

Thanks so much Fran, I appreciate you sharing your story here.

I tend to think that exactly as you say, rebellion soon sets in after not been given times to learn to adapt to be alone.

I find being alone, a lot of soul searching can happen and we identify exactly what we want in our live.

Also the benefit of time alone is as you say challenging ourselves rather than competing for attention.

Kind regards
Erica

Excellently put Erica!

Luckily we didn't have the distractions that kids nowadays have, so we had to venture outdoors and I would have it no other way!

I do that some parents are at fault here these days, but as I don't have any kids I will say no more here!

Great to hear from you again my friend and enjoy the rest of your week!

Thanks so much Nick for sharing your thoughts and commenting here!

You are so right the distractions are like gambling pokie machines that some adults get hooked on too,

I would say that the schemes of major co-ops that are profiting huge amounts of money to keep not only kids addicted to games but adults as well, and doing this without a consciousness of social morals for the empowerment of the social communities.

You too my friend have a fun midweek :)

Kind regards
Erica

Those sunrises over the beach must be spectacular and well worth an early morning or two Erica!

The weather is changing here too, but not as fast as I would like though!

Finally, summer seems to be in the rear view mirror !!

Hi Erica.

This is a great post. I remember riding my bike around town and running around with my friends. I have to say it was safer back then, but there were always parents in the neighborhood watching out. As we got older we needed less watching, but it was still safer. It is sad that kids aren't safe to play in the neighborhoods like I used to. So much has changed.

Hello JD, thanks so much for sharing your stories of growing up riding around the town.

You are so right there was other parents out and about that would monitor the streets, looking out for the kids playing.

We had one time in Australia, a neighbourhood watch program, which people would put signs up on their fences of homes to let kids know it was a safe house!

That system was abolished because of insurance I believe.

That is so true JD, so much has changed and I would say not for the growth benefits and social development of our up and coming next generations.

Kind regards
Erica

yep.

Blessed Be, Erica.

Hi there Erica.

Your post has just cracked the code of what has happened to children in this day and time. I clearly remember riding my brother's bike all over the place. Today's children are no longer interested in going roller skating or playing jump rope.

Technology seems to be babysitting the kids of today. I have faith that parents will wake up and intervene. We must offer children healthier alternatives like a biking trail, a hiking trail, rollerskating fun or get them involved in things to enhance their creativity.

By the way, that amazing photo you took is priceless. It looks like it should be in National Geographic. What a gorgeous view. May I ask -Is this a sunset? It is breathtaking.

Excellent post, my dear!

Thanks so much Rachele, I appreciate hearing that you too rode your bike all around the places, no doubt exploring and having fun.

I see that technology has given a type of fun, it certainly captures the mind and I have to say I love technology for all it's facets and creativity.

I just feel their is lacking a happy medium for children to express themselves through realistic life challenges, such as navigating a road or suburb, taking into consideration the weather as one thing.

I would ride everywhere too, and take note of the changes in weather as one aspect of being outside.

Kids closed up inside lack the real time experiences that can be had in their environment.

I do not blame the kids as it is what the parents encourage as your right baby sitters, to sit on a phone.

But that is my whole point, as a kid I did not need babysitters, I was mature at a very young age to be able to navigate my surroundings safely alone!

In saying that my parents did not neglect me, they would come out looking for me if I was late coming home from doing my paper run delivery.

The photo is a sunrise looking out from the beach that is in front of my unit where I live and work. I take walks down early before the sun rises and get some awesome photos .

I take photos of the moon also, this is the moon last night here, at 12pm looking from my patio!

Kind regards
Erica

Hi there, Erica.

I totally agree that we have to find a happy medium for kids to learn technology, and at the same time give them opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.

Schools must include outdoor activities in the school curriculum, too. As you probably know, many schools have canceled physical education classes all together. This is non-productive.

Giving kids their space to explore also increases their autonomy. It also helps them build their character. They also learn about independence and boundaries, preparing them for the real world.

Did you say you had a paper route? How cool is that?

Empowering kids to stand alone is an amazing philosophy. After all, children are the future. We gotta invest in them and give them the tools that will help them become productive contributors to their world.

Seems like your parents gave you lots of love and a sense of freedom; the best of both worlds - which shaped you into the beautiful person you are today. In case you didn't know, you are wise beyond your years. You are not only a deep thinker, you also write and articulate like a real pro.

You have a natural talent in photography. Have you attended school for photographers? If not, you certainly could meet National Geographics standards. Your photographs are gorgeous.

If you haven't thought about professional photography, you should consider it one day. You have a very creative photographer's eye.

Have a wonderful week, my friend!
Rachele🌺

Thanks so much for sharing Rachele, I totally appreciate your genuine interest in children's welfare.

As you say it is imperative to invest kids with tools to equip themselves for the future, yes I agree completely.

I love thinking upon things my friend, it is something I have always done.

I have never gone to professional school for photography no, I just always loved using the camera.

I do love so much capturing images thanks Rachele for your compliments :)

You have an awesome week also my dear friend.

Hi Erica, great share. So true, I think some kids get wrapped up in computer games and so on. Going just for a walk, it seems if you do see any, they are on their cell phones. Just my humble opinion.

Michael

Thanks so much Michael, I totally appreciate your honest thoughts and experiences.

Yes for sure, most kids are attached to there phones, and in saying that so are many adults, very rarely looking upπŸ₯Ί

Your humble opinion counts thanks :)

Kind regards
Erica
