Is there room for another opinion on the Flouting the Rules discussion?

I really value many of the comments that are being made about Post/Blog Content. I also agree with a suggestion I read (and sorry can't give credit to that great Thinker) that the two different content types should be separated. I agree with that.

But what if this can be self determined. Perhaps the authors themselves can check mark their content type or can there be a newly installed Content Button? Choices can be Business related only / or Social Content / or Daily inspirations or ..... This will help the authors and their appreciative audiences match up. The old adage - Birds of a feather ....

Sometimes there is a thrill in opening up a grab bag and being surprised by the contents: but it wouldn't be when you go to a restaurant and say to the waitress why don't you just bring me what you think is good - and then you want to blame them if they didn't give you exactly what you like! Without any further clarity to the current rules authors are left to bring what they think others will like within their understanding of the rules.

If content can be separated and you only want business related items - you can just choose that in your filter. But say you're taking a break or too tired to work that day and want to take a walk on 'the light side'. Click on the Inspiration button or the social button and those posts can open up to you. As far as Rank is concerned I would think that would be given only to the business content type.

Varied content can be enjoyed by all if we can filter it so that each one gets only the content type they want. So the owners would not loose any business by continuing to offer what is here and letting us control what fills our plate. Like going to a buffet - it always amazes me that if you lined up 100 patrons plates - no two would be the same! So lets have some empathy for the owners who are trying to please all 100 guests.

P.S. I too do not like to waste my time on what I consider irrelevant items. My problem, for which I invite a solution is the constant notifications I get of people answering the money Question. I interrupt my lessons, excited that I have an important communication ....just to find another, in an endless stream of ..... answers to the - how much do You want to earn Question. I can't think of anything less relevant to Me .... Please have mercy and help if there is a way for me to filter that out!

There certainly ARE a LOT of suggestions about this, of late!

There has to be an easy answer, so let the owners do it.

Hi Shirley, really good content. I agree with your idea. Irv.

Thank you for letting me know!

This an amazing post, Job well done. Enjoyed reading this.

Thanks for the feedback, very much appreciated.
Regards

Nice blog Shirley:) I proposed the idea of categorizing posts and the opportunity to select from the categories for what you want to read to Kyle a few days back. I support that idea.

Thanks so much Loes, The fact that I had the same idea as someone I admire made my day!!
Also I'm glad you gave Kyle your suggestion because as a Newbie I would not feel it's my place.
Best Regards

Nice idea you are proposing here, that the author categorised their own post. I actually did that for some of my posts so people know what to look out for and can just choose to leave my blog if they are not interested in the topic.

I have opted out of email notifications and just check the activity dashboard daily to see what's interesting or appeals to me that make me jump in to comment.

Thanks for your comment.

After the author selected their category and published I was hoping all postings could be separated so each member would only receive whatever content categories they chose in a drop down menu.

Great post Shirley.

Yes you can stop those notifications you don't want to receive (I did a long time ago). Click on the green icon top right and find the thread(s) you want to stop receiving notifications on. Check the thread(s) then click on Actions > Remove me from the discussion.

I was beginning to worry as I have had no comments on my blog I do not know if this is normal or not but I so appreciate your comment in particular as I was referring to your discussion.

Thank you so much for telling me how to stop the thread. This is very valuable to me and I can't wait till the next one I get to do it! Bless you

Marion I'm so grateful - I'm out of that discussion! Yipee

Just to say thanks again - I'm out of my 2nd discussion thread!

I didn't realize that by leaving a comment on a discussion page that you would be notified when other comments were made there. That is a very nice feature so you can keep following it -and because you gave me the above instruction, now I can opt out of that thread whenever I choose. What a gift - one I will use often!
Have a great day!

It just occurred to me - maybe in here is not the proper place to have talked about this as the P.S. may be off topic from this Post (so I will know in future if I have to keep my post pure?) . Will you give me an idea if I should have private messaged you or gone to your site or if this was ok.
Regards

Slightly off-topic from the original post but it was a valid concern. I'm so glad you've got it fixed. Perhaps in the future someone else will have the same problem and you'll be the one to tell them how to fix it.
