What to do when you have writer's block

So, what should I do when I have writer's block?

Sometimes you just can't think of anything to write about or can't think of the right words to use. Here are some things I do when I have writer's block.

First off, it happens to a lot of us so don't get stressed or beat yourself up about it. It will be fine and you'll get your mojo back.

The first thing I do when I can't come up with a new topic is I go on an online treasure hunt. I go look at other people's blogs and see what they're writing about, even if it's not in my genre. Sometimes that spurs an idea in me and I get back to writing. Other times, just get ideas for how to do page layouts, photo ideas, contact pages, about me entries, etc. There are a lot of ideas out there.

When you can't write there is SO much to do on your website. For instance, you could probably tighten up your SEO for days and still have more to do. Go through all of your pages and check that all of your grammar is correct. Make sure you have good alt text entries on your photos. Go back through all of your posts and make sure your affiliate links are working. Check your search console for keywords that drive your visitors to your site and come up with some new ones.

Maintenance is very important

You could also take this time to find some new affiliates. Think outside of the box about what you could advertise that might bring additional visitors to your pages.

Another thing I do when I can't think of things to write about is I post other things on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and other social media sites. For example, my website BaseballMomStuff.com is about all things for baseball parents. So when there are no blogs to post, I post funny memes, articles from other sites, cute photos, and direct affiliate links. These might not all be my content, but it brings people to my social media pages and may entice them to follow my pages and then my stuff will be in their feeds.

And, guess what...I'm in a little writing slump right now so I'm writing this blog post. I've also been taking some time to give and get comments on my posts, and interact more with other WA users. So basically, I'm always doing something related to my website, it just might not be writing content. But everything else is important too.

Visualize your "happy place" was the advice Happy Gilmore was given prior to an easy putt.

Doesn't work for everybody. I watch TV and have some whiskey.

LOL! That sounds fun too. :)

Being a fiction writer (I have four published books). I am very familiar with the writer's block. In my opinion, the best way to overcome it - pretend that you are writing to your best friend.

Just what I needed. Good ideas. Thanks

All good stuff! I have found that by having a list of keywords I always have something to write about. Another tip, despite wha others advice, is instead of writing a 1000 word post split down to two 500 word posts.

Another idea is to select a keyword from your list, brainstorm this, and then create a list of posts from the one keyword/s. A bit of a mind map.

Great ideas! :)

Great ideas....the point is to stay in motion. Do something.....

Great points! Sometimes it doesn't 'feel' like you are making progress, but if you do something involved in your site, you are!
