Best to build up your site a bit and then seek some affiliate programs depending on your Niche chosen.

Nothing wrong with trying but many programs what to see a bit more than a site that has been indexed with nothing on.

Remember not every post needs to be promoting you can again depending on your niche write about certain aspects and once you build up a bit you can always add a link later to the page or post.

In the meantime nothing wrong with stating you experience and etc here in WA and add a link there.

Don't worry about joining a affiliate program. Write content (fill your website) first and as the traffic builds up you can join affiliate programs and link products.
It should all be in the training in the correct order of when to do what. And don't worry about missing out on potential sales - that is highly unlikely at this stage. Sales will only happen when you are ranked on page 1 and that is likely a long way off but the first step is to get ranked for content.
