Hey guys! Working on getting content on my page now. Just curious if it is appropriate to link to products and use images from Amazon on your website before you have an affilia

Hey Scott, all I can say is that when I applied to amazon affiliates I didn't have anything on my site at the time that referenced them in any way.

I just gave them my sites name and before I knew it I was approved. I was shocked and happy.

So, I'm not sure if linking to products or having images of Amazon on your site without permissions can work for you or against you.

However, I do know that putting no images or any reference to them worked just fine.

At the end of the day it's your call. I'm gonna follow.

Much Success To You!

Hi - you cannot just copy and paste images from Amazon, Google or any other website. You have to ensure they are copyright-free. Even when you get approved as an affiliate for Amazon, they only supply you with one image per product.

Some of the content on your website should be purely informational with no selling intent, so don't just focus on products.

That makes a lot of sense.

If you want to make money from your content. Affiliate links are a must, but if its just for practice and to provide a concept I say go for it (just note you'll make no money until you link it with your affiliate link)

I understand that. That's kinda the issue is I don't have an affiliate link yet and I'm wondering what I should be doing in the mean time until I do have them. I understand after then I can start writing product reviews and linking to items but what should I be doing in the mean time? The same thing and just know I wont be getting any income for it? I'm sure I can always update my posts after I get an affiliate link anyways but just a bit confused on the "typical" process to get started.

yeah mate just write content, focus on getting it to rank and learning SEO. Once you have traffic going to your page you can start to think about affiliate links but you really don't need to until you actually have traffic (can't make any sales without traffic, so focus on that first).

What Wilkins said!

Thanks btwilkins. That's the issue I'm running into though is the only thing I can really think of is writing product reviews. I didn't really know there are additional pathways. I'm guessing that's going to be in one of the trainings I haven't done as a starting member.

Step by step guides on using the products.
Comparison articles.
Updates and news on the products.
Subtle ways to mention how you use the product.

Hope this helps

That actually helps me a lot. Thank you again Jerrum. I just need to change up my focus a bit it seems haha.

Always take a wander through Google aisle for sites in the same niche as you. Their websites and posts will give you more ideas.

Or search the product name in Google as if you were keyword researching to find more ideas on what to write about.

Good luck buddy, wish you well!

You will get there as you go through the training, the first focus with your website is to build out the foundation, the content and get rankings. Once you have rankings and traffic then you can focus on what you are going to promote.

There are 10,000's of affiliate programs and millions of products you are going to be able to promote as an affiliate, don't ever worry about there being nothing to promote within a given niche. There will likely be 100's if not 1,000's of things you can promote. ;)

There is no sense in putting to much thought into what you are going to promote until you have content in place and an audience to promote to. You will definitely get there though!

That makes a lot of sense. Thank you Kyle!

Hi - yes, it will be some time before you can monetise your site. You will need to apply to join an affiliate program such as Amazon. They will inspect your site to see if it is suitable before they approve you.

Once approved, you will have access to all their product links, which you add to your website. When a customer clicks on your link and buys something then you earn commission.

However, before any of this happens, you need to concentrate on adding lots of written content to your website.

Hey Diane! Thanks so much for the response. That makes a lot of sense but how will I know when it is the right time to apply, what content goals should I go for prior to applying that affiliate programs are looking for in my website? Also where exactly can I apply? I can imaging the tab on the left side of the screen that says "Affiliate Programs"?

Typically, you should have around 15 articles on your website before you apply. You can use the Affiliate Programs feature here at WA or you can find your own by searching in Google.

That sounds great to me. Thank you!
