Journey to Office Room (contains spoilers for today’s Wordle)
It begins with the alarm. The first time in a while that it’s worked properly for me. Rachel helpfully told me last night – only a few weeks too late – that it hasn’t been going off recently. No wonder my mornings have been idle.
I made some adjustments before sleeping and, hey presto, that taunting tune that I should modify as well, has me woken at 7.30 as intended.
I don’t dawdle in bed like I used to, but I take a moment to cancel my paranoia alarms set for 8am and 8.30. I have things to do, not least this, before my morning journey ends with the Feeling Good group in the early afternoon. The stiffness in my joints isn’t as awkward as usual, which is good.
Oftentimes I wake up feeling like I’ve crippled my spine. It has inspired me to come up with a new proverb / saying which I may use in my book. If you sleep on your belly, don’t be surprised when your back finds out. It means if you do something stupid, to expect consequences.
Yeah, okay, I should explain that. Apparently (this is Google research, but it does make sense), if you lay on your stomach at night it puts pressure on your back. This can cause backache in the morning (hence my Google search), so sleeping on your side or back is best.
Unfortunately, my cats and Rachel couldn’t care less, so I end up twisting and turning on a night despite my best intentions. I digress, sorry.
I make a cup of tea. I must stop using the Christmas mug that has found its perpetual way to the front of the queue because of… well, December. It’s February, Russell, you’re embarrassing yourself. I’ll move it to the back when I wash up later.
I make a few notes for this piece – my late homework. I did my ten affirmations last night because I’m a good boy and forced myself to it. My initial thought then was to write my journey piece about completing today’s Wordle. Lazy I know, but I felt I might be rushing.
So, sure enough, I load up Wordle on my mobile. If this does end up being my writing assignment, I should try to make my guesses interesting. So, my word for yesterday (my word, not Wordle’s) was “tired”. I don’t think I’ve felt so worn out since I stayed up all night to watch the Royal Rumble last month.
I put it down to the online interview I had in the morning. Made me feel sick and anxious which is far more draining than the many hours I devote to my passion projects. Still, I did it and gave in to the tiredness later in the day. We had our first telly night for a while.
So, my first guess on today’s Wordle is TIRED. The D is correct and in the right place, but none of the other letters are featured. Don’t get me wrong here – my usual strategy is to use both E and A in my starting word, and usually an S as well. I’ll go for words like STEAL or STARE but that probably isn’t the personality look I’m going for if I end up typing about this later (which I have).
With no E or I in the solution, I must try out some other vowels for my second try. With it being Valentine’s Day, and for the same reasons I didn’t use a typical starting word, I opt for CUPID and strike it lucky. There is a U in the word though out of place. I have to say I go into gaming mode at this point. I don’t want to lose, after all.
With a D at the end and no E, I latch on to the O, U sound as I think the end letters will be ND. I want to test them first at any rate. I go for SOUND in the end – bound and pound came to my head first, but B and P are less common and I like to throw an S in somewhere. And guess what? I solved today’s Wordle in 3 goes!
I’ll definitely feature this in my journey story then – clearly not a journey of any length I’m afraid but it’s okay to boast in moderation. I average around the 4 guesses mark, I think, so I’m not always this lucky.
Not a bad start to the day so far, but I must get on if I’m to make the group in time.
So, I’m at my desk now, typing up my morning journey so far. It’s already a bit too long for my liking. Possibly a good thing – you probably don’t want to know about my bath or bowel movements.
Plus, I’m a bloke who wears blue, black, or grey, so my choice of clothing probably won’t inspire you much either. I’ve worn my Ipswich top because we’re playing tonight and it’s going to be more comfortable if we end up doing movement in the group again. I’ll leave it there.
My office window is to my left. The morning fog is still hanging over the park. It makes the bare trees look stark and the grass has a ghostly shine. A cold, peaceful morning with the steady rumble of traffic in the distance. No wonder Maisie was at the living room window this morning, peeping at the birds and whining greedily.
Oh dear. I’m halfway through page two, so I best stop here. A quick change of title from “Journey to Feeling Good”, to “Journey to Office Room”, annihilates any chance of commercialising this piece of writing. Oh well, I hope I didn’t bore you too much.
Perhaps I’ll post this to my affiliate blog later as testimony to one thing at least – if you’re stuck for something to write… just write. It’s fast proof that there are still words in your head.
It can kickstart your day as well because even the mundane has a creative spark when you start communicating. It makes me feel more confident about writing for my online business, at any rate.
And if you don’t write, fail to create content, well then – if you sleep on your belly, don’t be surprised when your back finds out.
Happy Valentine’s Day, y’all!
Russell (I don’t know why either)

Why is it that not getting Wordle within 5 is so frustrating. Really?! Who cares? I really start to worry on the 3rd try. I enjoyed the post. Happy Valentine's Day!!
