The True Power of Adding the Word Yet to Your Sentence

As a follow up to my blog post 5 non-negotiable disciplines of a high achiever, the power of adding a word to a sentence, can be life-changing. This is a strong statement, but words are truly powerful, and by proactively using them, they will help change your mindset to become a potent driver towards your success. One such word is Yet.

Look at the following the sentences;

  • Oh, I can´t do this,
  • I don´t know anything about this,
  • This will not work,
  • There is not enough time
  • I don´t understand it
  • I am not god at this

I could go on forever with similar sentences. What do these sentences do to your mindset and resolve to reach your goals? They will kill your resolve and motivation by telling yourself that you will never succeed, that reaching your goals is not possible. And you are doing it to yourself!

Put the word Yet at the end of the sentence and see what is happening;

  • I can´t do this .... Yet
  • This doesn´t work ...Yet
  • I don't know ... Yet
  • It doesn't make sense ... Yet
  • I don´t get it ... Yet
  • I am not good at this ...Yet

Isn't this better? The sentence is turned completely around and has become a positive sentence, with a resolve and call to action embedded.

Hi Roy,

Thank you for sharing. Your post proves that a small word can be a powerful thing. This is such an interesting way to turn negative things around.

The word "yet" puts our fixed mindset statement into a growth mindset. It allows us to explore the possibility in something that may seem impossible in the beginning.

We need positivity to cope with everything we go through in our lives. It brings optimism into your life, and makes it easier to avoid worries and negative thinking. Great mindset to have for a business owner, big or small.

Once again, thank you, Roy.

To Our Success,
Ferra

Thank you, Roy. 😀 If we want to keep progressing with our online business, we should make positivity as our bestfriend.
However, we should be careful. Why? If we know something is not working (yet), we don't want to keep doing it just because we are positive or we believe that it will work eventually. In some cases it could be fine, but sometimes when something is not working, maybe it is also a sign for us to change our approach.

Have a great day.

Well written words of caution, Ferra. 👍🏼😊

Wonderful post! Great method Roy! However I have never been that type to say I can not do a thing, or it does not work before I tried or done it. LOL. Even when I failed at things I got obsessed by succeeding at it. As a 4 year old I was convinced I could ride a grown up bicycle and set off with my mothers bicycle down a hill.
It did not go very well, but that made me even more obsessed on learning how to do it. I guess I love to figure things out.
I like the word Yet. It makes perfect sense to me.

Great mindset, Hilde!

I recognize myself in what you are writing, Hilde. I can´t remember that I have used the word can´t very much. I have just done it with more or less success, and then gone at it once again to get it right the next time around.

Roy

Thanks Roy. This word can be a game changer. So small but YET so big :)

What a great point Roy. Yet indicates that there is something else coming. I often think I am not good enough to do something, yet I am not giving up.
Thanks for the help.
