What Things Do You Struggle With Your Online Business

Earlier today, I was looking at all the questions within the platform, it’s always interesting to see what members are asking and to see if we can add some assistance. In the 10 years that I have been at Wealthy Affiliate, I have asked 289 questions, equal to about 30 questions a year. It’s great to know that help is at hand when we have a question.

When I first started out online, I was literally scanning the Internet on how to start an online business. I had no one to help me; as I was out there on my own, I didn’t know what worked and what didn’t work. Thankfully, with the Wealthy Affiliate platform, there is plenty of training to help us create a full-time online business. If we have a question, we can just simply ask the community or go to website support.

I think one of the things I have struggled most with is consistency. This is partly due to the fact that I have an off-line business, which keeps me quite busy. As many members are aware, consistency is a major key to success in the online world.

I think another thing members struggle with is which niche to go into. That’s something that I have never struggled with; in fact, I probably have too many ideas for various niches. It’s much better to focus on one niche, rather than limiting our time with multiple niches.

So, really, my question is, what are your biggest struggles online and how do you overcome your struggle? It would be great to hear what aspects of Internet marketing members struggle with.

Thank you for reading.

Hi Roy

As I have said before, we can become more efficient by using “idle time” in lines, waiting rooms, the passenger seat of a car, etc. to create draft content.

Some platforms are particularly well suited to take advantage of this with mobile AI.

I have created the majority of my Pinterest images and content text (title, description, etc.) using a custom GPT in the OpenAI app on my iPhone. Then, when I return home the pins are ready to be posted using my laptop, after a bit of editing. 😎

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

Thank you for taking the time to comment, it's appreciated.

Yes, I hear you, big time, Frank it's good to make use of "idle time" and make the most of life. There was a successful member here who was a long-distance truck driver, I don't think he's on the platform any more. Apparently, when he took his breaks, he made the most of his time by writing content, it obviously worked as he ended up going to Vegas!

In a way, Frank, it would have been nice if you could have created some training regarding what you have learnt, as I believe that you have a deep knowledge of AI and associated tasks.

It's good to use our time wisely!

A very happy Friday to you.

Roy

I dictate on my phone when waiting

Excellent, Catherine! 👍👍😎

Have an excellent weekend! 🥳
Frank 🎸

A very wise and good move, Catherine! It's good to use our time wisely be efficient.

Have a great weekend.

Roy

Thanks, Roy!

I really appreciate your confidence in me! 🙏😎

Frank 🎸

It's always a pleasure, Frank!

A question for you: Do you really have to leave the Wealthy Affiliate platform? I think you have a lot to bring to the table, Frank and it is a good way to keep your marbles running smoothly for many more years!

Please take the above as a compliment, Frank, as I do have lots of confidence in you!

Keep on rocking and have a great Sunday.🎸🎸

Roy

Hi Roy

I do take your statement as a big compliment! 🙏

We will keep in touch, so no worries. 😎

Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

It's been such a pleasure communicating with you, Frank.

When is your last day on the platform?

Wishing you all the best and very happy retirement.

Roy

Hi Roy

Over the years, I have noticed that some of my patients retire horribly because they are miserably bored, and many even return to work, while others have an excellent time in their remaining years.

I'm someone who can easily fill each day with things I love to do, so I'm looking forward to kicking it all up a notch or two. Lol 😎

My last day here is December 22nd.

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

Unfortunately, I hear you absolutely massive time on this subject, Frank! I'm amazed how so many people do not really do life; they just seem to live a very mundane type of life. I could not stand living a life where you work the nine till five schedule and then come home, have dinner and watch television and do nothing else! There seem to be so many people who do this and have no aspirations for their retirement; it's very sad.

I believe it's so important that we make the most of life. Even just something like being on the Wealthy Affiliate platform and helping others is such a satisfying thing to do.

I'm probably one of those people who doesn't like doing what Mr average likes doing. You could probably show me a picture of a great film star, comedian, singer, etc, and I wouldn't have a clue who they were! But if you showed me an old tractor or a piece of garden machinery, I could probably tell you exactly what it is! I guess we are all different!

Have a fantastic day.

Roy

Hi Roy

Yes, I think we are very similar in that way. 😎

Passion is a great asset, and variety is what keeps life interesting throughout our childhood, working, and retirement years!

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

I believe so, Frank!

I think it's really good to wake up with a passion to want to do things. I have absolutely no trouble getting out of bed, I look forward to the day ahead and the things that I can potentially do. I can't quite manage on four hours of sleep, though, Frank; I like to have seven hours if I can.

Yes, I guess many of these things to him from childhood, if we are motivated in our early years, hopefully, that will carry on.

Wishing you a fantastic day keep on rocking.

Roy

Hi Roy

Five hours of sleep is ideal for me, but I can easily get by on three with a short nap in the afternoon.

I've always been a night guy because my creativity seems to peak then, and there are very few interruptions since most people are sleeping.

I've always been one to wake up with new ideas in the wee hours of the morning. In the old days, when I lived alone, I would be playing guitar at three in the morning! Lol

Now, if I get out of bed to work on something, my wife will usually wake up and ask me, "What's wrong?" so I just go back to sleep instead. 😎

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

I have always found that amazing, Frank that you only need that much sleep. I have a pastor friend in the US who sometimes comes on my YouTube podcast; he only needs about four hours of sleep a night! It's amazing and quite useful when it comes to getting things done.

I hear you, Frank. I don't know of any musicians who are early birds. I understand where you're coming from when it comes to no interruptions; I just do it the opposite way around: early mornings!

It sounds like you have a wife who cares, Frank, which is good news!

Have a fantastic weekend.

Roy

Hi Roy

Eight hours of sleep is definitely the healthier option in the long run. 👍

Over the years, I would begin getting pages from hospital nurses beginning at about 6 AM during their change of shift, so that time of the morning never worked out for me from an interruption point of view. 😎

Frank 🤘🎸

Hello Frank,

That's interesting, Frank. I have absolutely no problem getting up in the morning at all, but I'm so much more productive if I have a good night's sleep. I could probably get away with four or five hours of sleep for one night, but after a few nights, I definitely would not be able to function properly or be productive.

Do you think people's lack of sleep affects their health? My guess is yes.

It's important that we don't get disturbed when we are trying to work.

Enjoy your Saturday.

Roy

Hi Roy

Chronic sleep deprivation definitely has the potential to create mental and physical problems.

I've been able to manage ok with my sleep schedule by adding "power naps" throughout the day, but there's nothing better than adequate uninterrupted sleep.

I shudder to think of all the fun I would have missed over the years with an optimal sleep pattern, but I thank God that I'm still in great shape at 70 years old! 😎

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

Yes, I really can believe that! As you know, I'm an early morning person and when I get to a certain time of day in the evening, it's almost like my timer has run out and I need to go to bed! You won't get much out of me once my timer has run out!

I'm not an expert on sleep, Frank, but it does appear that a good night's sleep makes us feel so much better and getting to bed on time. On the rare occasions that I do have a power nap, I'm amazed at how much better I feel.

The Greeks and surrounding Mediterranean countries will often have their siesta in the afternoon; I guess it may be a bit different now with air conditioning, but I do know it still goes on. Personally, I would prefer to get my work completed and then relax at the end of the day; I don't think I would feel like going back to work.

That's a good way to look at things, Frank. For most of us and I'm sure you're included in this, there is never enough time in the day! It's brilliant that you are in great shape, Frank, long may it carry on.

Wishing you a great Sunday.

Roy

Hi Roy

Sorry, I'm just reading this; I've been so busy closing down the remainder of my medical practice, etc.

Yeah, when I lived in Italy for almost four years, from the late 1970s to the early 1980s, the whole country was taking the siesta, and all the businesses shut down in the afternoon.

I began taking the siesta for about an hour a day, and I was in my 20s. I remembered the old expression "When in Rome, do as the Romans do," even though I was living in Florence, but I moved to Rome after about a year and a half.

What wonderful times! 😎

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Hello Frank,

That's no problem at all, we can't be everywhere! I hope that everything is going smoothly as you gradually shut down things.

That's interesting, Frank. It's quite a nice idea, but I don't think I feel like going back to work again, it's nice to get finished and have the evening free. However, countries like Greece and Italy do get warm in the summer months. I don't know if it's just a summer thing or does it carry on throughout the year?

I'm sure it must have been quite an experience, Frank. It's wonderful that you have experienced the Italian lifestyle and can look back with joy.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Roy

Hi Roy

In Italy, most everyone in the entire country took the siesta all year round, and I hear that they still do! Lol 😎

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

I hope you're doing well.

I think it's similar in Greece, although it might not be quite so bad. I used to have a machine which was powered by a Lombardini diesel engine, apparently, it was a nightmare to try and get parts in the summer holiday months, which doesn't surprise me! The Mediterranean way of life is slightly different here in the UK and the US, I believe. Although it definitely has some benefits!

Have a great day and keep on rocking, Frank.

Roy

Hi Roy

Yeah, in Italy, the majority of Italians vacation in the summer. They call it "Ferragosto," which is technically on the 15th of August, but they love to take a week or two to travel with family and friends. 😎

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

I think the Greeks mark the 15th of August is the last day of the summer holiday, which doesn't make any sense to me at all. A British person could potentially have a sunny holiday almost up till the end of October in Greece. I'm not quite sure why that is!

I'm not a fan of the month of August in the UK; once we get to the middle of August, it can almost seem to start to feel autumnal. Sometimes, September seems a better month.

I know that Greece would be a bit warmer than Italy, but I'm guessing that it obviously gets quite hot in the summer, Frank.

Have a great day

Same to you, Roy! 😎

Good morning Frank,

When is your last day at Wealthy Affiliate, is it today or Sunday?

All the best to you.

Roy

Hi Roy

It’s Sunday, so I assume my account will be closed at midnight EST.

Have a great day/evening! 😎
Frank 🤘🎸

Good morning Frank,

It looks like this may be my last comment to you on the platform!

However, I'm glad that we can communicate through email.

Let me wish you a very happy Christmas and a very happy retirement.

Roy

Let's definitely keep in touch, Roy!

All The Best in 2025! 🥂
Frank 🤘🎸

Great question there Roy, so glad to hear you still have your offline business.

I think everyone no matter how experienced/new/bright/optimistic,/ insert your own word here suffers from consistency.

I still do but I find that as you get more successful you tend to stick with things more as you have seen results and you want more

Thank you, Catherine, much appreciated.

In some ways, it's good to have an offline business, as I go to all sorts of different places, mainly in north-west Essex and Suffolk.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sometimes suffers from consistency. I am much more of a morning person, hence why are normally up around 5 AM or sometimes before. I struggle to be productive in the evening time.

I understand where you're coming from, when we find something that works well, it's easy to stick with it.

Have a fantastic day.

Roy

just as a matter of info, Dr. Jack Kruze, a foundational medicine specialist, says there is nothing better for helping your body than facing east at dawn outside for fifteen minutes a day, every day for the rest of your life. However it's easier in the tropics

That's interesting, Catherine! I do think it's healthy to be outside, maybe not quite so much here in the UK, but in many parts of the world it's wonderful.

We have weather warnings in the UK for wind and rain, it's a rough weekend. I still have to go out with the dog, though!

Have a great weekend, Catherine and enjoy your travels.

Roy

Consistency is certainly one thing I struggle with Roy!!

Being the master of all techniques I try is most definitely another!!

The more we do this though... we find what works best for us as individuals... then it's time to rinse and repeat and forget about all of the trivial stuff that takes up so much of our time for very little rewards!!

Enjoy the rest of your week my friend! :-)

Good morning Nick,

Yes, I can very much relate to the consistency one, Nick!

When I first started out online, I had a professional build my website, it was before WordPress was popular and easy to use. I didn't even think about building a website, as first of all, I didn't have a clue on how to build a website and secondly, I wanted to focus on adding content. In some ways, it wasn't about principle, as I just kept adding content and didn't have to worry about anything else. However, things have changed a bit now, but I very much understand where you're coming from.

That's very true that the more we do, the kind of easier it gets and we can rinse and repeat. I believe that different things work for different people, it also depends on the niche.

Thank you for commenting, it's appreciated.

Have a great day.

Roy

Evening Roy!

I totally agree with you assessment here and couldn't have said it any better!

Enjoy the rest of your week my friend! :-)

Good morning Nick,

In some ways, I still wish it was like that today.

Realistically, I had one task to do and that was to add content!

If there was a problem with my website, I contacted my Webmaster and he would quickly sort out the issue. Of course, there was a price to pay, but realistically it was probably worth it.

A very happy Friday to you.

Roy

Good evening Roy!! I do so long for the days when everything was just that little bit simpler, but... we are where we are today and simplicity has gone out of the window!!

One must just adapt to the times and keep on moving forward no matter what!!

Have a wonderful start to the weekend my friend! :-)

Good morning Nick,

I do know where you're coming from, Nick. I think this is one of the things that I enjoy about Greece, life seems to be so much simpler and more pleasant. I remember rightly you are in France, I think the French probably enjoy themselves more than we do, especially in the country areas.

I'm guessing that countries like France, Italy, Greece are all a bit more laid back than what we are here in the UK.

We have storm warnings for wind and rain here in the UK, Nick! I think I will be keeping the fire company along with the dog!

Have a fantastic weekend.

Roy

Evening Roy!

Yep, I am still in France, but doubt the French enjoy themselves more than the English though!!

Definitely Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal have more laid back lifestyles....

Keep yourself warm and stay out of the storms my friend! :-)

Good morning Nick,

Really, I'm surprised, I kind of imagined French to be a bit more laid back, but I guess it also depends on what part of France you are in. Yes, I agree with you very much there, it's a different type of lifestyle!

I think the whole of the UK has probably had storms with strong winds and rain over the weekend. The week's forecast for East Anglia's grey was no sunshine, but you can probably guess that!

I always look forward to the 21st December, when we have reached the shortest day. Despite the weather still being cold, it's always nice to see the days potentially going longer and spring bulbs pushing through.

Have a great week and all the best.

Roy

Evening Roy! I guess the French can be more laid back than us in rural areas.... but definitely not in the city where I live!!

Hopefully the worst of the storm has passed now for you....

It has for my family in the Westcountry apparently...

Take care buddy!!

I share your struggle with consistency, Roy! I work a full time job, so time is difficult to come by.
But this community helps a tone! I do get on the platform daily while at my full time job, this helps me stay "in the game".
Soon I will be concentrating on my online business much more than I have through the summer months!

Happy Hump Day!! 🐫

Tim 🎼

Thank you for your comment, Tim, it's appreciated.

Time is a major issue, Tim; I appreciate that we all have the same amount of time, but it's not easy when you're working full-time. It sounds like we are in a similar situation, my work is also quieter in the wintertime.

I do find using the Pomodoro technique and setting a timer helps me to be more efficient. It's almost like having a deadline!

All the best.

Roy

Sounds like a good idea, Roy! I'll have to give those a try!

Thanks!

Tim 🎼

The Pomodoro technique definitely helps me to stay accountable, Tim.

Apparently, the idea is that you set the timer on your PC for 25 minutes and then take a short break. I have my timer set for 25 minutes, but I normally set it for another 25 minutes, especially if I'm writing, as I don't want to lose that flow.

The good thing is that it makes me very aware of how quickly the time is flying by.

You can see the post below that I wrote about the Pomodoro technique. Have a fantastic day.

Roy

The ongoing struggle with getting traffic is at the top of the list. One of my sites is in the weight loss niche. Even though I’m going back and refining my titles by searching for long -tail keywords, it’s hard to compete against these massive health and government sites with teams of professional writers. They write on every keyword I look into!

I think to myself…Should I target “aliens from other worlds who struggle with weight loss?” 🤣😂🤪🤷‍♂️

Hello Steve,

I guess that traffic will probably be the biggest thing that members struggle with, or maybe getting the right sort of traffic. I don't know much about the weight loss niche, but from what I understand, it's quite a flooded market. Have you tried creating YouTube videos on the subject? Maybe they would have more punch?

That may not be a bad title for weight loss, you may be pleasantly surprised!!

All the best and thank you for commenting.

Roy

I’m thinking of how to use YouTube to my advantage because right now, all the YT health channels are dominated by young men with 8-pack abs and supermodel women. lol

I know where you're coming from, Steve, but it is surprising how YouTube videos can gain traction. It's probably worth experimenting with!

Have a fantastic day.

Roy

My struggle is trying to find the time to devote more effort into building my website. I currently have a full time JOB, but wanting to build for my future retirement to have some additiona income. When I look at all the comments from the community here at WA, it keeps me positive in fulfilling my dream.
Great read.

Thank you for commenting, Mark, it's appreciated.

I think this is probably a common issue, Mark, I appreciate it's difficult to build an online business when you're working full-time. I think a few of the younger people on the platform who have been highly successful probably lived at home and had part-time jobs. That makes a difference!

I believe that in the circumstances we just have to try and set aside time to do the necessary and be consistent. Which I appreciate is easier said than done at times.

It's good to have the community behind you, I can very much relate to that, I agree that it definitely helps to keep us moving forward.

All the best.

Roy
