A Dog Story That I Was Part of Today
This morning early, before it got very hot, I walked down to a local grocery store and got a few things. On my way back up the hill near my house, I noticed a small dog. probably a Chihuahua cross, running down the other side of my street. Cars go fast along here, and I called out to it, but it ignored me and continued towards a busier street. I said aloud something like "May it be safe."
Shortly after, I was in the house with one of our dogs, and our other one had gone out into our well-fenced yard. There she was at the front gate, sniffing noses with the tiny dog. I succeeded in getting our dog inside and then I opened the gate and the little dog came right up to me.
I was glad to see him safer, though our front fence is not particularly tiny-dog-proof.
He seemed to be well cared for and his collar had a tag with a local phone number. Luckily my husband Kelly was out in the yard too, working on something. At my request, he went and got a leash and his cellphone. I felt safer once the dog was leashed and I had the leash in my hands.
I was sitting on the porch steps holding the little dog when Kelly called the number. As soon as we heard a voice on the line, the little dog started howling -- long long howls.
I could hardly hear the conversation but the gist of it was that yes, her dog was missing and she and her friend would be right over. When they came and I walked the dog-- still on leash -- up to them, he leaped into her arms. She explained that she had been in the hospital with heat stroke for a day or two while her friend cared for the dog. When her friend woke up this morning, the dog was nowhere to be seen and there was a hole in the window screen. He had evidently been roaming our neighborhood.
All's well that ends well. What a relief!

As a dog owner and lover, if my girl ever got lost and was on her own, I would stop at nothing to find her and hope that she would be able to find someone like you.
What a relief indeed, have a fabulous day my friend.
