How to deal with comments that don't really comment on your content?

Lately I've gotten several comments that aren't bad or wrong, but they don't comment on the main point of my post. The most recent example: the post is about pros and cons of affiliate marketing with a section at the end about WA. But the point of the post is the pros and cons. And yet the comment is about WA...

In such cases I can't decide what to do with them. I don't seem to get more than one or maybe two comments for the 2 I submit and I don't want to give the other person a bad approval rating, but I really don't see the use of such comments. Thay don't add, they look like they are just there for the sake of it and I think that doesn't look good when other readers come to the site.

Any other opinions? or ideas?

I wish there was a way to aske people to edit their comments! :D

I agree with Brownie, use the Wa Comments and explain why you do not accept their comment as true commenting.

When you disapprove a comment using the WA system you need to give a reason as to why you are disapproving the comment. Whether it goes back to the person or not I do not know. If the comment isn't adding to your site I would disapprove it.

We have a couple of choices you can either edit the comment or you simply delete it.. it is good quality comments that engage that are needed

Yes! Good quality & engagement -those are the keys.

I always err on the side of caution. If a comment isn't helping you with the text, it's going to hurt your SEO IF it's from a weak or spammy website (not only including WA websites here). So, as others indicated, remove it and perhaps explain why.

I agree with all of you. And you gave me the courage to just disapprove when needed. :)

I think it is good when I know why comment is not good. You can improve ratings writing more comments. Jut disapprove and explain why you did it.

I reject them and explain why. Don't feel bad about that. People don't understand the purpose of comments yet.
