Don't Change Your Title!

Last Update: September 05, 2015

Edu (TopAchiever) just did a blog about having your blog deleted for violating the rules at WA. You can read it at https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/topachiever/blog/t... If you overstep your bounds, all your viewers will see is an "Oops!" message similar to that shown below -

Another way to lose your blog, tutorial, or question...

Note that overstepping the rules at WA isn't the only way to lose your work though. Once you've hit the "Publish" button, the system assigns a URL to your blog, your training, or your question - and that URL is base on the title (or question) you've written.

If you decide to edit your work, and change the title as part of your editing effort, you've just changed the URL. Anyone hunting for your original masterpiece will be replaced with the "Oops!" message you see above.

Don't change the title once you've hit "Publish"!

You can change your headings, add or remove pictures, or even completely delete and re-write your blog, add steps to your training or change the video,... you get the idea. Any edit is fair game after you've published - just not the title.

There is no way to use a redirect or work some other magic once you've changed the title. The announcement has gone out to the membership at WA - and it has a non-working URL.

Avoid the hassle - don't touch the title once you've published!

Dennis

You're very welcome Jewel!

It can be just a little bothersome to spend time putting together a blog or tutorial, only to have it evaporate for anyone who tries to access it.

If you don't touch the title, it should remain for all to see :)

Thanks Dennis ... I've always wondered about that. I thought it had something to do with the Blogger changing their mind about something.

Hi Dennis!

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we wind up shooting ourselves in the foot.

Steel toed webmaster boots. Hmmm... interesting niche idea ;)

You bet Karen!

It stings just a little to find out your carefully written blog - a thing of beauty and a joy to behold - has disappeared into the ether :\

Glad to hear you're wise to the ways of WA!

One more piece of the puzzle fall into place.

The trouble is that I'm working at one end of the puzzle, and someone is making a never ending stream of new pieces!

No problem Dennis,

I won't be changing my title so you can still call me "Sir"......hahahaha

Phonemes are interesting beasts Mark.

You might hear the word "sir", but what was being said was "cur" - just pronounced with a soft 'c'.

O i see ! That is why..? that Ooops message comes out when clicking blog link. There's another one that you will be redirected to a chat link somewhere and I don't know what's wrong with it?

Hi Pio!

Yep, that's one way blog links can fail.

I'm not sure about the problem you've indicated with the chat link though. What kind of problem are you having?

too bad there is not a way to change the signature and take a "blah" post and change it to a "wow" one! (not involving cash exchange)

Hey Michael,

Knowing of the trap prevents the magical disappearance of your hard work. Hopefully you've not encountered the magic in the past - and now you won't have reason to see its effects in the future!

HI Dennis, thanks for the feedback. Yes, learning means making mistakes, particularly when one's not fully aware of limitations and potential out there. Keep up writing useful tips!

Hi Dennis thank you so much for sharing this information . I was totally unaware of this aspect . You learn something new every day . Which can be very helpful . Think I mite of been guilty of changing a title . If you know the rules you can play the game, all good .

Hello Alexander!

I've been the beneficiary of information others' have shared here at WA, and thought I'd throw my nickel's worth into the hat.

A little share can help in so many ways!

Hi Edu!

Glad to hear from you here.

I thought about putting "Part 2" on the title to further emphasize the expansion on what you'd written - but resisted the urge to change the title ;)

I'd like to believe that by sharing, we'll all avoid mistakes in the future.

My problem is that I seem to have a talent for continually finding new mistakes to make!

Hello Bee!

Glad to hear you held off changing the title. Being a perfectionist has its perils. At the risk of dating myself, at times it's best to follow the Beatles' advice, and just Let It Be ;)

Don't take time away from your blogging, but we're all hanging fire - waiting on that "To be continued... " at the bottom of your profile ;)

Dennis
Reply
RushingBee Premium
Wait, you actually read my profile all the way to the 'To Be Continued'?? Wow, I'm flattered!

I'm making good progress, and hopefully I'll be writing up that edited profile soon... but not quite yet. The cliffhanger continues. ;)

Oh, I know all about the perils of being a perfectionist, trust me. The trick is to remember not to let it get under your skin so much that it ruins your day - not worth it. Take heed everyone: Paul McCartney's dead mother gives good advice.

Thank you Dennis. I am one that would do it to try to correct a typo. Appreciate you pointing this out. ~Gina

Hi Gina!

Ah yes - the infamous typo correction.

I have to resist the urge to correct spelling and punctuation errors (or omissions) - and hope the error make the post more memorable.

It's a stretch, but that's my poor rationalization for letting the error go ;)
