Look What I Found in My Leg!

When I had my 20 year old hip prosthetic replaced (6 weeks ago now) with a new one, I asked the surgeon if I could have the old one.

It had to be sent away to be cleaned up and I don't know what else, but he gave it to me and it's pictured above.

Funny to think that was inside my right femur for 20 years.

The new one has a much longer shaft and feels very secure.

Any way, for those who are interested in this sort of thing, there it is.

Off to do my 10,000 steps now.

What a great find Phil! It makes me wonder what else you have hiding in those legs of yours!!

In all seriousness though, I am so happy that you are recovering well my friend... what leaps and bounds technology has made over the last few years..

You will be back in the saddle in no time..

Yes, Nick, I think I will be.

Wow! So far, I have been spared any thing like that.

But it sure is wonderful living at a time when these things are possible.

Get well soon and great to hear you're doing so well.

Keep looking up and rejoicing for good progress and mobility.

Work steadily but carefully so it is all forward motion.

Thanks, Warren. It's all good so far. Did 11,516 steps yesterday (Sunday).

Better than me. I'm a bit lazy - and enjoy it!

We all enjoy being lazy, Warren. Relaxing over a good book or binging on a TV series.

Or responding to you guys.

Indeed.

Well, your post title sure piqued my curiosity. Glad it's an okay thing to find there. Now that you have it, what are you going to do with it?

I'm not sure, Fran. Others have suggestions from paperweight to the handle of a walking cane. Do you have any ideas?

Toy gun for a kid? Not sure...

Very futuristic. Heading off for my 10,000 steps now.

Phil, It looks in fairly good condition, considering it’s age. Glad your replacement procedure went well.

Thanks, Frank. The new one has a much longer shaft and feels very secure. The surgeon had to use a bone graft to patch a small hole that had been poked through by the old implant.

Actually, most of the damage was to the polyethylene cup, which had been partly worn away by the ball over the years. That's why it dislocated so easily.

The medics are so clever these days

Yes, surgery, anesthesia and prosthetic materials have all come together to produce better outcomes.

Yes they do amazing stuff.

The anesthetist gave me a spinal anesthetic and sedation. It meant I woke up pain-free and without the side effects of a general.
