Do What I Say, Not What I Do
Do What I Say, Not What I Do
My very first website on the Wealthy Affiliate platform was in the anti-aging niche.
It was a natural fit for me.
I'm (ahem) older, with 4 grown-up children and 4 rapidly growing up grandchildren, with a lifestyle that embraces long walks, bike riding, weight workouts, no prescription or over-the-counter drugs and a body weight unchanged since I was 18.
Yeah, I know, big deal, right.
But I felt I had something to offer and Wealthy Affiliate offered me a platform and a methodology to promote it.
The site did pretty well for a while.
But not so much recently.
It's been neglected.
Today I took a close look at it.
What a mess!
Look, I've published blog posts and training on Wealthy Affiliate covering Landing Pages, Opt-ins and email follow-ups but when I reviewed this years-old site, discovered that it was a case of "do what I say, not what I do".
So I'm undertaking a major revamp of the site, covering:
- Redo About, Contact and Stay Informed pages.
- Create a landing page for each product.
- Create a generic Thank You page.
- Create 2 pages for each free opt-in:
- 1. Product Opt-in containing form to add contact to mailing list with tag and send advisory email to admin. Leads to generic Thank You page.
- 2. Download page for opt-in product.
- Publish blog posts for each product, linked to its landing page.
- Publish blog posts for each opt-in, linked to 1. Product Opt-in.
- Create email series based on tags.
We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for sharing your post on "Do what I say not what I do."
Your reconstruction is very in-depth and detailed. Hope you let
us know the outcome. I had no idea the worked involved in revamping
a website. How do we know when a site needs a revamp?
Rachele
This one just wasn't following the principles I now use and as it has a huge number of products and opt-ins, it's a major task. I knew it needed something as it was no longer making money (a site that's not making money isn't a business, it's a hobby - unless of course it's a startup).
Hi Phil,
That's how I felt about my MMO site about a year ago. Another member at Wealthy Affiliate helped me to revamp my site focusing on these issues you brought up. I feel it needs more work. The MMO niche, actually a broad niche, has to be narrowed down. Like creating a series of micro niches within it and doing the things you mentioned.
You are not alone ha!
Cheers.
Edwin
Hi Phil, so are you the Year of the Tiger? LOL.
Yes, I remember when I first joined here a month after you-you were doing skin care. I have a very sharp memory. I remember some were ganging up on you about it, then you left being active on the platform for a long time, but you were still building your affiliate marketing business. As you mentioned, there are 25 sites in other niches, right? Has that been consistent? I am glad you are returning to work on your skincare product niche. I had not known that you abandoned that skincare site. I wish you the best.
Thanks, Brenda. I'm enjoying the restructuring. It's an anti-aging site and skin care is just one of the product groups but an important one.
I will, Brenda. I want to see it earning again but I know it needs a complete do-over first.
I hope your plan works, but can I ask if you considered deleting (yes yes) or updating old blog posts?
Because that is what I am doing at the moment, while still publishing new posts that is.
Partha is writing about that and Vitaly had a few classes on this as well. I think it is important to just cut out blog posts that aren't doing well at all. Like I took a look past week at a blog post that had 80 clicks in one year (oh my gosh)
. I think that has an impact on your whole website for Google, keeping these, no?
Well, that is my understanding at the least in figuring out why the recent Google updates hit my site so hard.
Lizzy
That is a good point, Liz. I had read ParthaB on updating posts. I had not though about cutting out old posts that simply are not performing. I am just starting out so I have a while before it really matters to me. However, I noticed that as I research keywords, there is a change in the rankings for keywords even over a month. So it would make sense to me at least that some keywords might lose their popularity over time.
Thanks, Lizzy. Yes, I'll be pruning and rewriting all the blog posts after doing all the restructuring.
It's always a good idea to revisit and improve old posts. Sometimes that can get them indexed if they weren't before.

Hi Phil,
I can no longer find your comment on one post here about a product review post, you mentioned you don't put affiliate links on the post itself, instead, you create a separate landing page with the affiliate links.
Luckily I found this blog post of yours.
Are all your landing pages > No Index?
Thanks,
Rowe
Have you seen this one? Don't Overcomplicate Landing Pages No, I'm happy for my landing pages to be indexed.
I set my thank you and download pages to noindex, of course, as the only way a visitor should see them is after an opt-in.
Thanks Phil, I will try to re-read your post about landing pages.
I'm planning to adopt this method of making a roundup post and then just linking to a landing page (product review page).
Good luck with it.
