Cyclone Jasper Has Just Made Landfall
Cyclone Jasper Has Just Made Landfall
Cyclone Jasper has been hanging around in the Coral Sea for the past week or so.
But has just crossed the coast into FNQ (Far North Queensland, which we commonly refer to as "effin Q").
I live in the state of Queensland, Australia. It's fairly large (you could fit Texas into it about 2 and a half times) and the cyclone has crossed the coast around 2,000 kilometers north of where I live.
So little effect on me, except maybe some big surf.
But up north, it will be a different matter, with gale force winds and serious flash flooding.
Fortunately, our SES (State Emergency Service) has had plenty of time to prepare and is standing by with personnel and resources.
Our hearts are with them and a hope for minimal damage and no loss of life.
The big message that our police service always puts out is "if it's flooded, forget it" but unfortunately, there's always a few that ignore it.

Happy to hear that you should be safe where you live Phil but I hope the damage is not too bad for those in "effin Q" and everyone there stays safe....
And be careful on Thursday morning when you are out catching some waves, the swell could be a lot more dangerous than you are used to my friend...
Thanks Phil I know as we mentioned that Cairns airport is closed and people may not realize how much such cyclones affect the surf miles away.
The swells can be very dangerous even 2,000 close to you and more.
We are very lucky to have the SAS on board and always well prepared well as far as they can be but if this decides to intensify all we can do is hope and repair the damage once it has calmed down
Praying for all those in the areas that are affected and will be affected more soon.

That's a lovely thing to say, Ivan and I really appreciate it.
Our police and SES (State Emergency Service) have done their usual superb job and kept people safe.
So happy to hear that Phil
Yes, they always do and they are experts in swift water rescue and well practiced in winching people to safety with helicopters.
