Amazon Affiliate Update Training

I've blogged here recently about the recent changes announced by Amazon to their affiliate program.

I've mentioned that I was creating a training video on what this meant and what, as an Amazon affiliate, you should do about.

Because of issues I've run into, I've split this into two videos.

Video 1 covers how SiteStripe works, what's being removed from it, when this is happening and how you get qualified to use Amazon's PA-API facility.

Unfortunately, after I got qualified for PA-API and obtained my credentials, it didn't work.

And Amazon Support (?) were of no help at all.

I've covered this whole journey in Video 1.

You can see the Video 1 training at:

Video 2 will cover alternative ways (including WordPress plugins) that you can get round this Amazon issue.

Hi Phil,
Thanks for your hard work on this, much appreciated.
I signed up for the Lasso plugin yesterday to have all of my Sitestripe images migrated over to Lasso.
This is a solution for many, however, it is an expensive solution!
I will check out your training video.
Jenny.

I'm attracted to Lasso as well, Jenny. It's one of the options I'll explore in Video 2. But, as you imply, out of reach for many.

I believe I read that lasso uses their own API credentials therefore you don’t need your own.
Could be ideal for those without credentials.
But, not 100% certain on this.

That's my belief as well, Jenny but I'll know for sure when I test it out.

Hi Phil, thanks for taking on this challenging situation. I ran into ghis headache when trying to use the WZone plugin with Woocommerce, but that was making many requests as you might expect. Anyway, I also discovered that API requests were driven by qualifying sales.

In an effort to beat this new blocker, I have paid for the AmaLinks Pro plugin, which I'm finding clunky to use. However, it is working and I've updated a post with images from the API in recent days.

However, if I don't make a sale within the next couple of days, I will pass the 30 day threshold. I'll let you know if this breaks the work I've done so far. A live test so to speak, which may be scuppered if I make a sale lol.

Of course, my efforts don't make good business sense. The cost of these plugins easily exceed my Amazon revenue. However, a good plugin may drive more sales against less competition if you have the time to invest in site development. If they can break anytime, though, it's not a solution for beginners.

On a side note, I don't see how the Lasso solution (without API access) can comply with Amazon terms. Would appreciate your take on this.

I'll be in touch after the 30 days if I've not made that sale.

Russell
(I know, it's been a while)

Thanks, Russell. I'm investigating each of these plugins.

Please keep me informed.

I am not an Amazon Associate. I saved this so if I ever change my mind and become an Amazon Associate, At least now I know where to find this information. Thanks, Phil.

Probably a decision you're quite comfortable with now, Brenda.

Great info Phil!!
If I were to use the text only option from the site stripe, would I still need to go through all of the PA-API facility set up?
Thanks again for all you do, Phil!

No, the Text option will continue to work.

Cool, Thanks Phil!

But of course the issue here is that people are more likely to click on an image.

That is true!
The few that I've done, I've inserted the link onto an image I've found in other locations. Hopefully it works. Newbie here.

Unfortunately, that violates Amazon's tos, which say that you must use their code to display images.

Thanks for that info Phil, much appreciated!
I have a lot to learn.

We all do, Tim.

Awesome, Phil! Thanks for keeping us apprised of things!

Jeff

No problem, Jeff.

Thanks, Phil!

Jeff
