Newbie writer's block

The title "Newbie writer's block" made me laugh at myself. Writer's block is exactly what I have been suffering from the last few days. I'm so new to writing that I'm entertained at thinking I may actually be blocked. Yeah! I have a warped sense of humor. Perhaps my brain needed to make light of it. In order for me to move past being annoyed and get back to business.

Meanwhile, I was searching for an answer regarding training. I found my answer. However, I ran across a couple comments that reminded me others have been through similar.

Once I decided to write this post, I began looking for an image. You know the drill. I was following the prompt. I discovered there are numerous images of blocks. Some images showed kids stacking blocks. Other images were stacks of blocks or solid wall of bricks or blocks. Why am I mentioning the blocks?

The blocks reminded me it's all a process. Many of you have encouraged myself and other newbies to follow the process. I'm guessing getting past my writer's block means not only following the process. It means I need to build my writing step by step, block by block to get to the finished product. I don't know if this makes any sense to you. But I found the blocks
therapeutic.

A block for a writer is just a tempory obstacle to overcome Ophelia. Sometimes it lasts for minutes and other times for days. I find I generally get writer's block if I am working to a specific target. Remove the target and the words and ideas begin flowing again.

Life was interfering with writing last week. So I've probably put too much pressure on myself to try to make up for time lost. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I recognize that I'm on my own time table.

Thank you for the insight.

You're welcome Ophelia.

No worries. Even the best writers hit the wall at times. And you're doing the right thing... if you don't know what to write about, write about THAT. You might be surprised what bubbles to the surface once you get going.

As far as being a new writer, here's a little training I did a while back that a lot of new members have said helped them. Give it go if you like:

Thank you. I will certainly take a look at "How to Write for Non-Writers. Really appreciate the tip.

That's a great insight and you're absolutely right. Your post... particularly about building a step has just helped me with something I haven't been able to articulate clearly.

Every new challenge I've faced on this journey was a realization that the challenge wasn't the problem. I was the problem. I had to grow in some way to overcome the challenge. To build a step 😉

It might have been a new skill I needed, to become more patient or persistent, develop a new habit, learn to find those nuggets of gold in disappointment, to make failure my friend instead of being afraid of it... or a combination of all of the above.

Thank you so much for you post and glad to see you're finding your way through the process :-)

I'm glad I was able to help you. That's a different twist!

Your writer's block will pass. I'm sure it's safe to say most of us have been through it. All the best to you.

Yes, good thing about being here is you know you are not alone...and many have overcome it different ways.
