Why is my home page blank other than the background color? I can see everything in edit preview after updating. But site doesn't show anything but the background color.
Is it possible that u have enabled a Landing page on the Customization screen of your Theme.
For example, my Theme allows me to choose between background Types: (See attached pic)
-Image
-Slider
- Video
So if u selected Image and didnt put an Image, this is what would happen. You would get a blank page.
Hey Ophella,
How have you setup your homepage; are you using your latest blog post or a static page? See screen print below...
You said that you can see "everything in edit preview after updating" but you did not state if you were creating/editing a post or a page.
If you have set a static page as your homepage, and you edited a post, then it will not be displayed on your homepage.
If you have set your latest posts as your homepage, and you edited a page, then it will not be displayed on your homepage.
Hope you find this helpful.
Answering your questions-I was editing my static home page. It is not a post.
I checked the homepage displays. Is this the correct setting or should it be the view you sent? See image.
Thank you
Hey Ophella,
Sorry for my delay in responding. Your response did not come through to me. Checked previous comments left to see if a response was given, and there yours was.
In response to your question.
If you have set a static page as your homepage, and you edited that page then it should be displayed on your homepage, yes.

Why isn't the home page show my message and image?
Why is my home page blank other than the background color? I can see everything in edit preview after updating. But site doesn't show anything but the background color.
Hi Ophelia, not sure which slider you're using but with the ones I'm familiar with, you would have to create each slider as a page... labeled slider #1, slider #2 etc... add the image you want to each one, then publish.
Then in your slider setting, you can assign each of those image pages you created to your slider.
It depends on the type of site you're building. If you're going for organic traffic from Google, people are primarily going to your content pages and that'll be the majority of your traffic. As a percentage your homepage will get relatively little traffic.
For example, my homepage currently amounts to 1.2% of my traffic.
Sliders can be good for businesses that get direct traffic or a digital product company that's selling a software for example, but not necessarily the best for sites that rely on search traffic because they add bloat to your site and slow it down. And if you're not getting a lot of traffic to your homepage anyway, the benefits don't outweigh the cost (in this case, cost being site speed and potentially your Google rankings).
The only reason I know about them is because a client of mine wanted one so I had to figure out how to use them, lol.
I'm going in circles checking settings. I can't find the problem.
If I created a slider it was not intentional. I'm looking for organic traffic through Google.
Where do I find the option to create a slider? I need to undo it.
Thanks
Hi Ophelia, it's probably part of your theme.
In your original image those dots (screenhot attached) indicate the number of slides, and each one would have it's own published image for the slider to work.
If you don't want a slider, which is probably best, the place to check is your plugins. The theme may come with a slider plugin pre-installed and you can just uninstall it.
The original theme does not have 3 dots. Or I'm just not seeing them. I don't see anything in my plugins either.
It's a Generate Press theme.
I finally found the issue with the blank page. The header plugin caused the problem. GeneratePress helped identify the issue by having me deactivate all of the plugins. I found the problem by process of elimination.
Thanks
Sorry Ophelia, not sure how I missed your previous few messages here. My apologies. It could be all the US election news, LOL.
I have a serious addiction to the news drama that I've been fighting for literally decades. I'm usually pretty good at avoiding all media and focusing on my work, only allowing myself the quick headlines at the end of the day. But this past week as really sucked me back in.
Thanks for following up and glad you were able to get it worked out. I have one site running on GeneratePress but not a lot of experience with it. That site is kind of set and it forget it... at least at the stage it's in at the moment. But although I haven't had to contact support, I'm told GP are really good at helping out.

Pages and Posts are gone. It was all there yesterday.
I can see my site content in the back office.
The only thing remaining is the color of the background.
Hi. I'm going to check for updates in WP. Someone else said that is the problem. Although, I updated WP yesterday before writing a post, maybe more updates are available.I updated when I edited yesterday. Viewed the site a couple times after that and everything was alright. Wanted to share my work with my daughter today. And wallah. Nothing.
Thank you

Is it okay to use an image from a government agency website? If not, how can I find out about the license requirements?
thank you. I looked around for license info. Didn't find it. But I will look closer. So far I haven't found a free image that I want. May have to pay for one.
No. You have to use only images licensed for commercial use. There a lot of free ones like those in the site content tool or sourced through Creative Commons but many you have to pay to use like those from News Services etc.
Government websites often have a list of the image author or a license statement on the site under legal information. Most government sites do allow images under noncommercial terms or limited commercial license.

What have I missed? The google analytics ID is in SEO & advanced analytics is checked.
Remember that Google Analytics and Search Console are two different things. They have their own verification codes that you have to put in the correct places in All-in-one SEO if I remember correctly.
Hi Ophelia,
If you do not put the Google verification code in the correct textbox in the All In One SEO plugin then Google cannot see it. (see screen print below...)
OR... you could add the HTML file instead: How to Verify Your Website With Google, Yahoo & Bing Using FileZilla (FTP) Hope you find this helpful.
You are always so helpful. Thank you. I'll try the 1st option. Using FileZilla seems a might much since I'm technically challenged.
Thanks again
