Our Fun Raiser

We beat cancer today with kindness,my sister-in-law was told she had breast cancer before Christmas, we saw how hard it was going though chemo and her losing her hair. We decided to have a fun raiser and donate all the money to The Breast Cancer Foundation. But most importantly it was to motivate my sister -in law Diana, so my wife Natasha and i started our act of kindness.

We picked a date 22-2-2015, we called people, we door knock, and we even organized a Breast Cancer site so people could donate. Now our chosen target was $2,000, so off we went knocking we raised $350 and on site we raised $600. The day before our fund raiser. we set up the garage in pink, we were having a sausage sizzle, cakes, cup cakes, and raffles, its amazing what people donated. We got a

  • retro bike worth $200
  • the post office gave us collectible coins, stamps, under water camera, cook books grand total of $1,000
  • hair straighter $300
  • 3 month gym membership worth $350
  • haircut worth $150
  • car detailing $150
  • hair products $100
  • juicier $200
  • manicure $100

There is so much kindness out there, the day has come in the morning we set up the marqueed, had the bbq ready to cook the sausages. There was about 60 people coming, it was a beautiful day with blue skies and a beautiful cool breeze. People started coming in droves they bought cakes and sausages and raffle tickets the day was going great.

Kindness at its best, but the big attraction of the day what every one came for was me. I was cutting my MULLET a hairdo i have had for 30 years, i was getting it chopped off for Breast Cancer Search. The day turned out to be one of the most fantastic day's of my life.

I made a speech for my lovely sister, and then her son and two others chopped there hair off too, kindness all round. All and all we raised $4,000 on the day. it was a good effort from all the people and friends and my sister-in-law had the biggest smile on her face "priceless".

That is a very encouraging post. Thanks for sharing, and sometimes it's good to start fresh with a new doo anyway : ). There are very few people around that have not been touched by cancer in some capacity. Thank you for your efforts.

thank you for caring with kindness take care mate

Well...heck...if that didn't bring tears to my eyes! And not because of the demise of your mullet. :) I love to hear such real stories...of suffering and compassion...but mostly I will love to hear the story of triumph. My heart goes out to your sister-in-law. It must be so terribly frightening for her and for her family. My mum wrestled breast cancer and won. She's 84 now, with not a sign of its return. I hope and pray this is the prognosis for Diana. God love you and yours for your active support. I can only imagine what it means to Diana. Bless you all.

Great to hear about your mother my sister-in-law will beat cancer, she is strong. I have learnt something today that cancer is not the end but the being of living

That's a great story Nelio - I want to see the "new hair".

My niece is in her 2nd round of chemo before surgery - she too found out she had breast cancer.

I wish I could take all the pain and discomfort away. She is newly married with 2 beautiful little girls - life can be cruel.
But in these times can be found such beauty, strength, courage and love.

Your wife and sister-in-law are lucky to have you - you are a good man!
