Vacation put me behind!

So, I took a week off to focus on some Food for the Soul (aka I had Gon' Fishin') and I was surprised at how much my website has fallen behind! I never would've thought that taking just a few days off would have such an impact on the overall health of my site!

Maybe it is just because my site is still so "young" and there's just not a whole lot going on there to begin with, but wow! My "publishing frequency" went from 100% to 50% in just a week! And I'm not positive if it was because of this, or what it was, but my rankings in Google have dropped by at least 2 pages on some of my Pages/Posts! (AT LEAST that many... blah..)

I know that no one likes to work while they are on their vacation, but I am sure wishing that I would have right now! I would highly recommend that if you are going to take a vacation, or just take some time away from your website, I would flood your website with quality content prior to doing so. Or at least try to put in an Hour or Two per day, just to "maintain face" with Google and your viewers.

Just a suggestion from my personal experience.

Hope this information finds someone well.

Good luck everyone.

Mine fail for just a couple of days.

I know the feeling!

Mine fail for just a couple of days.

Hi Obi thanks for sharing. I will remember this when I go on vacation. Regards

Yes! Don't do what I did and let your "Pleasure" get in the way of your "Business" you don't want to be stuck playing "catch-up" like I am...

For you next vacation, you are able to schedule posts in advance, look at the right side of your post in edit, there you can take the steps to the publish date

Thank you Loes! That's pretty much what everyone has else has reminded me of as well... I can't believe I didn't think of that sooner, because I had been planning to use it for several of my posts. Next time for sure!

Great post and amazing comments.I'm certain this will help many people

Thanks! I just hope that I can help keep someone else from falling into my same predicament in the future!

I found this the other week. My frequency is usually only 70% but it dropped right down to 40% after I missed a week.
What I found I could do was right a batch of posts ahead of time and then set up the publish schedule in Wordpress to publish them on scheduled times during the week.

Ahhh.. Of course, that's so simple! Why didn't I think of that? That's a great idea Evie, I will definitely be doing that in the future. Thank you for reminding me, I completely forgot that WordPress has that feature...

There is a way of scheduling posts which you've already written to be published when you choose them to be so if you write some before you go away, this would be an ideal solution. Unfortunately I'm not sure how you do it but am certain one of our lovely members will know more :)

I am familiar with how to do it, I just didn't even think about it until you both just reminded me... Seriously, thank you, both of you. It's like when you lose your sunglasses and someone points out that they're on your head... Sometimes you just need someone to remind you of what's been right in front of you the entire time!
