Hi WA members.

I just wanted to say Merry Christmas and a happy new year 2019!

This 13 days of Christmas come up on excellent time!
Most people here in Iceland don´t work at the weekends. And 22 and 23 of December is weekends days! So why is it essential.

Well, that mean the longest possible holidays in the holy days! 22 and 23 (which we always call Thorlakur) of December is free days because it is weekends.

The most important Christmas day for many in Iceland is the 24th. Because The Christmas starts 18.00 in the evening (I am never sure/understand about the USA system of PM and AM so I will use the Europe system here). Because of that people only work to 12.00, lunchtime.

Then 25 and 26 is of course too and holidays. Then come two working days, 27 and 28. But 29-30 is a weekend, so it is holidays also. And after on the 31, we only work at 12.00, lunchtime. And then is 1th of January, of course, a holiday.

Because of this period of holidays, some company had decided to add a gift with their Christmas gift. That is that the 3 working days I mention, 27-28 and the two half days, will be free from work — extra Holidays. So that people can have more extended holiday unbroken. But for the five last Christmas days, after the 1st of January, is a work.

Even so is always a big festival the last day of Christmas, 6th of January. Huge fireworks, great dinner, etc.

I hope you all have peaceful and a lot of happiness in the Christmas and next year.

Iceland sounds like Ukraine. They start Dec. 24 and go until Jan. 19. I am all in on that!
