Image Optimization

I wish to share this piece of information mainly with those of us that are new to Wealthy Affiliate. Just couple of days ago, one of our great members blogged about the importance of optimizing your images before using them on your website.

He was so thorough that you will literally see the need to optimize your image before use. Image that is not optimized can cause a whole lot of problems to your website and ultimately your online business will suffer!

I use to have a website back then, that became very slow in loading, that Google had to rate the 'health' of the site 1/5. I was using adsense on that site, as a result of the bad health of the site, I was not making significant money from adsense. Why? Because, people are always impatient! If your website is not healthy enough to load in 2 seconds, chances are you will be losing visitors, because they will just find the site available that will get their need solved.

It was so bad with this site that I had to finally 'decommission' it. If I had taking into account to optimize the site, I might still have the site till this day. All my effort and time I expended on that site just went like that, because of ignorant of simple information.

It is not difficult to optimize your images; there are sites that you could use to do that such as:

www.compresspng.com

www.jpeg-optimizer.com

http://www.imageoptimizer.net/Pages/Home.aspx

Those are very good sites that offer image optimization. As for me, I use www.compresspng.com for my images because it can optimize png, pjeg and pdf.

I hope you will find this post useful

Thank you.

I use GIMP for Mac, which comes with an "save for web" option. The software is free and image sizes are reduced up to 70% without, at least to me, noticeable quality loss. Still Google's Page Speed Insights (https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/) lets me know that the images could be optimized by another 80%... does that make any sense?

Yes, that is very helpful information.

Another one is:
PicMonkey - Photo Editor
