Oh the Joy of Youth!

So, at Tae Kwon Do tonight, I was partnered with a young lady of 13 yrs of age. I always love to have a good natter with the youngsters in the club, because their way of thinking is so fresh and untainted.

She preceded to tell me how she wanted to give up coming, when I asked her why she said because she was bored. On drilling further I was able to gather it was really because her friend of the same age was not there, and only came intermittently at best. Then she said that she still wants to get her black belt. In trying to explain to her why she should be more concerned wth her desire to attain a black belt and how good it would look ion her college application rather then whether or not her friend comes to class or not seeing as that is not in her control that i recalled the saying value everyone but rely on no-one - probably lost on a 13yr old, but it did make wonder at at which point in our life did we take on board that dealing with our friends and indeed other human beings mean that things may not go as planned, and that the people often let you down even when they are coming from a place of love.

Well, this was just a quick reflection on how the young can make you think and remember where you may have come from.

Have a good evening you all.

I think that as we grow older we look at things in a different and often more complicated way. Sometimes we need to listen to our own advice when solving someone else's problem to actually solve a problem or two of our own ;-)

I was hooked with Desmond Morris man watching book when I was younger, been a people watcher ever since ;-)

We were all there at one stage and, no doubt feeling exactly the same. We can encourage the young but they have to change themselves.
Thanks for your post.
Cheers Kev

Indeed, although I was pleased that she counted me as her friend lol It can sometimes be a tricky lesson to understand that friendship can survive outside of the common interest. Thanks for reading.

Yes, youth often have things to teach us, even if their method is 'don't do what I just did.'
