Slow But Steady Progress
Just a quick update on the website I recently upgraded.
From previous blogs I mentioned how when I transferred the website only a proportion of the blogs transferred. I was left with 18 posts and lots of broken links and not found pages.
My ranking fell off a cliff from an average 3-5 down to 50.
This week the work on the website was focused on reducing the number of "not found" pages and where possible fix broken links.
This is where "WA My Content" came in so handy. Most of the blogs I've written over the last 4 years were through "WA My Content" . Thankfully, there is a list of them and I've been able to copy the blogs, re-edit them and repost. A slow process but one that is starting to pay off.
Unfortunately, the ones I wrote direct to the website have to be written from scratch.
The good news is I now have 48 posts on the website up from 18. The ranking is up from 50 to 21 - phew!
There have also been some added bonuses -
- some blogs that weren't previously indexed by Google are now indexed.
- Some blogs were reworked to go on another website keeping that site ticking along.
One of the plugins I use has a broken link report. That has enabled me to work on reducing the number of broken links and orphaned pages which I believe is also helping to get rankings up again.
Recovering the website is slow, steady and painful work but it is starting to pay off.
I'm off to tackle some more missing pages and broken links.
Have a great weekend.

I am impressed with your progress. Reworking a site can take time, but then you have a clean site that is naturally aged, and ready to work for you. That age thing seems important to Google.
Congratulations,
Sami
Thanks Sami, it does take time. But I needed it to be something I could play around with and work at my own pace.
