Understanding Your Audience

Last Update: December 01, 2014

I had a very interesting weekend. On Facebook, I have a following of friends and business network contacts who spent the whole weekend blasting their timelines about what sales they were having and "buy from me", "join me" posts. I had to sit back and think a moment, gosh I hope I don't appear that way!

Then I realized that many people do not understand, that most successful posts and engagement is created with an audience when it is targeted towards select individuals, with a targeted message, with a targeted call to action. This may seem elementary to many, but its very easy to forget or just to not fully grasp how people on social media interact.

Social media is almost like high school. You have people who are very self centered, not in a bad way, but who want to communicate and engage in things they feel match them perfectly. People want to feel special, VIP, elite, and as if they are among others who share their interests. Once I remembered this and offered this information to individuals on my teams, they expressed so much gratitude for this tid bit of information or reminder for some.

This is my hope to learn how to do focus on this with niche marketing and sites. I have a few very unique topics that I hope can bring in specific traffic and results. I must say Im pretty stoked about what is to come.

FB is an interesting tool, not really oriented toward selling much. As you noted, people can quickly get tired of "promotions" on FB. I definitely need lessons on how to build our business there.

I think what Ive learned Allyn is that FB is much better for building an audience and creating relationships. But your actual marketing should be taken off FB. There are tons of programs that say they can make money from FB, I just have personally learned its much more effective for brand building and relationship building.

Connecting with your readers is the key. When you can relate to their hopes and dreams you can make the much needed connection.

Yes, you are correct. Those are the connections that are the most solid that I've built.
