I Tried for 6 Months and It Didn't Work: The Real Reason Talented People Quit

Do or Do No - There is No Try

How often do talented, passionate individuals give up on their dreams? They start with the best intentions, but after a few months of not seeing the results they want, they throw in the towel.

So, you tried for 6 months, but you didn't improve for 6 months either. You followed a list of steps, a blueprint to success. Wealthy Affiliate has a great blueprint for success. You see it every day. 92,000 Views in 28 Days and Counting: How I’m Building a Solid Facebook Foundation is a great example. Let's take a closer look at Shawn's journey. He started by following the Wealthy Affiliate training but soon realized that he needed to adapt the strategies to better suit his own unique strengths and circumstances.

Instead of blindly following the plan, Shawn took the time to analyze his progress, identify areas for improvement, and experiment with new approaches. He focused on building a strong foundation on Facebook, engaging with his audience, and creating valuable content that resonated with his niche.

By continuously refining his methods and staying true to his style, Shawn achieved remarkable success, attracting 92,000 views in just 28 days. Is this what is taught on the "Path to Success"? No, Shawn adapted what was being taught, to what would work for him.

90-Day Doldrums & 6-Month Plateaus

At the 90-day mark, new bloggers realize that they are no longer "inspired" by their niche, and have gotten bored. This is so common, that it even happened to yours truly. Doubting everything, I found inspiration in this community and came out the other side renewed and stronger in my beliefs.

Then you hit the six-month plateau. If the doldrums didn't sink your ship, this plateau will have you giving up. At 6 months you get to a point where you feel as though you are not learning anything new, and the money is not where you dreamed that it would be.

But here you are, still following the plan blindly without questioning if you should have taken a different path. In doing so, you're giving up on your dream and your ability to make choices based on what makes you unique. "You Do You" is the most powerful advice I can give you. Wealthy Affiliate provides the tools, but it's up to you to figure out how to use them in a way that works best for you.

Success is A Journey of Continuous Improvement

Consider Wealthy Affiliate as the diving platform on the 30m level. When you get to a certain point, you only have one choice - JUMP!

A solitary diver teetering on a pristine white diving platform, illuminated by soft golden sunlight, with deep blue waves crashing below, creating a dynamic contrast between fear and freedom.

This is a common mistake many people make when pursuing their goals. They believe that if they just follow the "right" steps, success will inevitably follow. But the truth is, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. What works for one person may not work for another. You need to find your jumping-off point. We will never leave Wealthy Affiliate, But there will be a point in time when the training is ignored, and The Hub's ideas, while good, no longer reflect our direction.

The key to achieving your dreams is continuous improvement and adaptation. Don't just try for 6 months; improve for 6 months. Constantly analyze your progress, identify areas for improvement, and experiment with new strategies. Be willing to pivot when necessary and always maintain what makes you unique.

One of the AI Prompts that I continually use is

"Review your last response and search for areas of improvement. Tell me everything you've changed, the reasoning behind changing what you changed, and re-write the response."

Are you sure that this is the best answer? Try again. The road to success is not paved from Point A to Point B, you are not following a predetermined path. Have you ever seen the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? It is about you having the resilience to keep moving forward, even when things get tough. It's about being willing to learn from your mistakes and adapt your approach as needed.

Is There a Better Way?

So, if you've been working towards a goal and haven't seen the results you want, don't give up. Instead, ask yourself: Am I improving, or just trying? I always go back to Yoda in Star Wars, "Do or Do Not, There is no Try!" Am I experimenting and adapting, or just doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results?

If you're not happy with your answers, it's time to make a change. Start by taking a step back and analyzing your situation with a critical eye. Identify what's working and what's not, and brainstorm ways to improve.

Then, create a plan for moving forward that includes regular check-ins and opportunities for course correction. Stay open to new ideas and approaches, and be willing to pivot when necessary.

Most importantly, never give up on your dreams. With hard work, perseverance, and a willingness to adapt, you can achieve anything you want.

We've all done it and I have been down this rabbit hole at the beginning of this year. To be honest, I have not fully recovered. I love the phrase "Do or Do Not, There is no Try!" from Yoda.

I appreciate the post Don. Reading others thoughts are very helpful because life is a challenge. Its got its good and bad, but it's about the decisions we make that define who we will become.

Thanks,
Rick ⍢

Always room to improve. And following someone who has mapped the way is how a lot of people do it.
Thanks
Steve

The mind of the collective is greater than the mind of one. There is always a lot that we do not know that we do not know.

Don

Very valid and valuable post.

Thanks, Dave,

This sprung out of one of my latest ideas for The Boomer Blogger. Baby Boomer Advice on Life.

The site has not taken form yet. I have deleted three hubs so far. Survive, Adapt, and Advance.

I take my own advise.

Don

Hey Don
I have reached this point with everything you have written about, it is so true, I am in a rut, stuck. Unsure of what I should focus on first to get in the right direction, and feel confident going forward with my choices.

Thank You!

There is a point in time where every one of us has hit the wall. The only difference is what we did about it.

Some will invariably quit.

Those who don't will need to look in the mirror.

When we started

- Did we pick the niche for success?
- Did we dig deep enough to remain relevant and get noticed?
- Are we fighting against "The Titans"?
- Is your niche relevant?

This is a service that I am fleshing out on another platform, that I offer freely here.

Don

🌟This is one of the best inspirational posts I’ve seen in quite awhile. Thanks Don. I’m definitely saving this one.

I love the analogy of the diving platform and the making the choice to jump. Ever since you wrote about not being so rigid with the 60 character title limits, it has opened my eyes that I’m one of those step by step guys.

I always thought of myself as a rock n roll rebel until I realized that I was going with the flow following all the rules like a good little boy. lol

February 10 will be 1 year since starting my first site, for weight loss, and it’s still struggling to gain any traction. I succumbed to the belief that following the steps would bring me to success. I feel like I have been improving and not just trying. Going back and updating older thin content, sprucing up homepage designs, changing titles and descriptions, adding videos and visuals for a better UX.

Meanwhile, my guitar site is going on 9 months . Looked promising from the start but is struggling too. I’m currently doing the same with updating as I did with the weight loss site. With the help of some special unique prompts, I’m slowly improving the content.

At the encouraging of many, I’m working on having a YouTube channel for the guitar coming out soon.

So, we shall see…..

Steve

Steve,

Thanks again for making my day. My goal as always is to help as many members as possible join "The 5% Club".

Success is just around the corner... But which corner, I am not privy to... So I won't stop searching.

Don

Here’s to the 5%ers! 🥂

This was such a motivating read, Don!

It's so true that success isn't about just following a plan blindly — it's about learning, adapting, and finding what works best for you.

I love the reminder that hitting a plateau doesn’t mean failure, but a chance to grow.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Boris

Boris,

Survive, Adapt, and Advance...

Come out the other side, adapt to what nearly stopped you, and gather yourself together for the next advance.

The journey will challenge you, but it won't stop you.

Don

This is the way 🤩
