...to PROCRASTINATION!

I've had enough of procrastination and lying to myself and therefore not getting where I want to be.

My plan was to make 3-4 posts a week. I guess most people who start here on WA have similar plans.
And I allow myself to claim that almost nobody can write 3-4 posts every week as a beginner.
There might be a few who can do it, but most simply can't.
Or if they can then maybe only for a short time.

Why is that?

One thing comes into my mind: PROCRASTINATION!
For people who don't know this word (I only learned about it a few weeks ago, since I am not a native English speaker), it means that you postpone work you could/should do today to another day.
You think it is only Monday, so I still have many days to write my 3 posts, right?

The problem is that this way you will have weeks with 3 posts and other weeks with only 1 post.
Not a good way of creating a blog and online business.

The "Schweinehund" problem.

In Germany we have a nice saying: You have to beat your inner "Schweinehund" ("pig-dog").
A "Schweinehund" is the small voice in your head that tells you, that it is ok to do your task later or tomorrow. Don't worry, everything is going to be fine. You just have to be patient.
Try and get rid of your "Schweinehund" as fast as possible.

How to beat the inner Schweinehund.

There are several ways to get rid of the Schweinehund.

  1. Make a plan!
While this sounds so simple, most people don't seem to do it.
Their plan is to write 3-4 posts a week.
Wow! What a great plan. *clap clap*

    You need a real plan!

    Write down your plan!

Define what you will do each day.

E.g. Monday: Keyword research and first draft.
Tuesday: Publish one post and help 5 other WA members
Wednesday: Keyword research and first draft.
    and so on.
What exactly ends up in your plan is up to you. You can set your own goals, but then you have to stick to your plan!

This way you know exactly what you have to do each day. And when you are done with your task you can either do some more, or call it a day without having a bad feeling, because you think you should have done more.

  2. The powerful Task Calender

I read about Jerome Seinfeld (aka Jerry Seinfeld) who used this technique to battle his inner Schweinehund.

He printed out a calender and wrote the daily task at the top. (In his case it was to write a joke every day.)
Everytime he finished the task he would make a X to cross out the day.

After a few days he had a X in every day and from that day on he didn't want to break the chain of X's. It wasn't about the task anymore it was all about the chain, so he continued to write a joke every single day.

We all can use the same technique. Even if our daily tasks are not always the same every day.

Make and write down your plan first and when you have finished your daily task you can make your X.
Make sure that you hang this calender somewhere where you can see it daily/all the time.

You can make more then one of these calenders, of course.

Are you up for the task?

With these words I want to send you out in the new week.

If you haven't done it already, please make a real plan.
Hang up your anti procrastination calender where you are forced to see it.
Take your chance here serious and treat it like a business and not like a hobby.

A hobby will stay a hobby. A business will earn you money.

Have a great week everybody and I hope you didn't really think I would say good bye to WA. :p

All the best.

Moritz

Hey Moritz,
You speak to my heart, because I am a great procrastinator at times.
My inner Schweinehund is so big I can send it to school already.
Thanks for the reminder my friend, and for being a motivation i my life.
