Confused, frustrated, and feeling lost
I've just found out that I have four dozen errors from my webmaster "structured data" thing, and every time I try to figure out what in God's name that means, I get people using computer techie words and saying things that make absolutely no sense at all to me.
I am a computer idiot, I do not speak computer. I'm starting to feel like this whole thing was a terrible idea because I can't make it work. Not because I don't put the work in, not because I don't try, not because I'm not doing EXACTLY WHAT I'M BEING TOLD TO DO, but because nobody will explain what going on to me in simple English.
I mean for the love of God it feels like I'm reading a foreign language!
Example: I have a lot of errors. I am being told that to fix this I will have to a) change my theme (but nobody has told me which themes will actually fix my problem), b) write in or re-write code (but not if I'm not confident with code, and I'm not, so that's no good), and c) pay someone to write the code/fix it for me (I am broke I cannot afford this, and I'm pretty sure the whole point of me signing up to WA was so that I could learn to do it myself and not have to pay other people to do it for me. I mean this whole endeavor is starting to cost a lot of money with not a lot of results and I cannot afford this at all!!).
I've read about other options, but I don't think they are very logical, nor do I even understand vaguely what they are saying they did/are doing to fix it. The reasons I think it is illogical is that it took them 3 weeks+ to fix it, and I haven't done anything major in my site that should cause those kinds of problems.
I mean really; I write, I add affiliate links and my share widget, and I post. I don't see how I would've created a 3-week-fix problem by doing any of those things. especially because I don't have an error for every post, just some of them.
So basically I feel like I'm totally screwed, not to mention why in Gods name would they not bring this up in the basic training if we already know (and it seems a lot of people do) that a ton of word press themes do not sync up well with what Google is looking for.
Conclusion, I am really frustrated, feeling very angry and like I can't do this cause I don't understand coding and computers, which is even more frustrating cause WA was advertised as a "you don't need to know anything about computers" kind of site. It was supposed to be easy to figure out. I mean I knew I was gonna be doing hard work, but I didn't think that half of it was going to be translating computer speak and trying to figure what they are trying to teach me :(.
If anyone can help me that would be fantastic, but mainly I just needed to get this out of my system. I just kind of feel like I spent good money on something that doesn't work. Again.

I know what you mean. I have problems with Xili-Language asked for help but I don't think no one knows anything about Xili-Language (installing video guide will be great? But there is no YouTube video for me to follow. As I'm a visual learner and I suffer from 'Written Dyslexia'. I cannot make sense of words in a lot of writing. When I see a lot of information my brain switches off.
I think and feel work on website designs that are already on YouTube that are 1 - 3hrs from scratch. Copy exactly what they are doing and there topography. At least have 3 - 5 in your portfolio. Sure they are copy cat but your clients are not going to scour the internet to see if you are copy cat burglar. If it's for yourself all power to you.
Do that and build your knowledge from there. I've been on here for 3wks now still struggling terribly. But, I don't want to be one of those people who misses out when I plan to be doing this long term.
You haven't wasted money. You've made an investment. Spend more time investing in WA.
I'm literally thick as pooh when it comes computers but I will keep at it. You can do it.

So I'm going through the same problem and in fact, heaps of people are too. Google has decided that they want more organized content and are making sure there is author ( you) missing date ( which is when you update a page/post, then automatic causes errors)
I've been looking to fix this for a week now, I have seen that steveo5770 is going to make a video, how to fix structured data( errors)
My brother (does programing for a living) he explained to me that it's a Wordpress problem in general, that lacks the code and yes the theme has to do with as well.
I'm about to send this code to my brother that I have found, so that my brother tell me it's correct. If steveo5770 hasn't come up with it before I figure it out, then i'll send you the stuff as well.
I would just courage you to continue to build content, and the answers will come soon enough. Remember you will need time to even gain trust with google anyway, so please be patience.

It doesn't really matter about those errors I assume you are seeing in google analytics?
These things take time. Stick with it, it's not easy for anyone. Free themes aren't as good as paid ones, as they are free and the people creating them aren't getting paid for their work, so they are more likely to mess up on little things in their code.
Don't overwork yourself either, don't want to burn out. Remember it's a long term thing and you can do great!
It can be frustrating at times. I just checked your site and you have so much good content that I hope you do not give up on it. I can't really tell you what themes are best, currently I am using twenty ten and haven't really had any problems with it. Try experimenting with different themes and see if that helps the issues. I really hope you get it all sorted out.

Its okay. Sometimes the errors are embedded in your theme and unless you're amazing at code (I'm not) you can play around with other themes or go to fiverr and find someone to fix it for $5. You don't have to know coding for this to work. I promise. I know don't know ANY HTML and my site is doing pretty okay. I understand the frustration. Just breathe. It will be okay. Take a day away from your website to relax and come back to it with fresh eyes tomorrow. Hope this helps :)
