Ambition
Ambition. What are your ambitions?
Ambition - a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work
Everyone can remember that question as kids, what do you want to be when you grow up?
What did you want to be?
I love that question we often ask to our children as the majority are of course influenced by their parents. They want to be doctors or lawyers. I asked a friend's son the same question and his answer was to be a Policeman like my daddy. Children are great, they are so eager to learn. They are sponges so ready to absorb what you do and say around them.
As we grow older our ambitions change. I remember getting out of high school, I didn't think about what I wanted to do. I wanted to have my own business but I didn't know what kind of business.
I worked for a major grocery chai, worked hard and moved up to management within 2 years. I had thought that maybe I could do this for a living. Maybe become a Store Manager one day. As the years went by, I realized how bad it was. It didn't matter if you worked hard, it was ultimately not what you know but who you know. I moved up to middle management and knew this was as far as I would get. I wasn't good at kissing someone's butt or being the bosses favorite. The last straw for me was, having to train a pretty young lady right out of college. In fact, I had to train her for 2 different departments. I filled out the evaluations and wrote that she needed more training as she was smart but had no clue about the operations. Well, she of course completed all the department training and was given an Assistant Store Manager position. Within a couple of months, she was promoted to the Store Manager. Where, you guessed it was at the store I worked at. I am however grateful for that because……
It was time for me to change my ambition
From that day forward, I would strive to reach my ambition of opening my own business.
Today is day 12 of reaching out and leaving a positive message to people

Marc, what a great post. We should all, as adults, rethink what our response was as a child when asked what we wanted to be. As a child our responses are so untainted with real life and show our true spirit. I wanted to be a librarian. I ended up working in Finance and couldn't wait to retire. We learn as we go along and I do believe that everything happens for a reason. So, you had that experience to make you the person you are today.
Thank you Debbi,
I absolutely agree with you. Children are so innocent and truthful.
Our lives make us who we are, that's what makes everyone so unique.
Look forward to chatting with you more in the community.
Thanks again,
Marc
