Transport slave labor
There is a new form of slave labor abuse centering around primarily migrant laborers in Los Angeles and Southern California. Immigrants have been victimized due their language and education level disparities.
Trucking companies :
-require over 16 hrs. per day travel time
-the time involved is to long that many cannot go home but sleep in the parking lot
-In some instances the lot is gate locked barring them from going home at employers will
-Trucks which break down are reclaimed and drivers lose $1000,s $ invested
-The drivers with nothing and heavily in debt are then fired
Thousands of truckers are in this bind and many companies as well! This also pervades other areas in the US also. There are hundreds of court cases but settlement s dragged out and the companies are able to keep up this exploitation.
It is likely this bonanza is seen as a quick mining job before driverless trucks which are imminent are adopted in the industry!
These characteristics impact the financial health of both the food and transport industries!

I can't imagine the impact on goods and services if people refuse to be truck drivers if the conditions remain the same or worsen. 16 hours behind the wheel is asking for trouble for all driving on the road.
While I haven't driven a big rig like Mac trucks, I have driven an RV, class A. There is little margin of error. One little misstep and you're either off the road or in another lane as they barely fit in the lanes on some streets.
The consumer demand for any type of goods are increasing daily and companies are trying to take advantage of this. I think the rise in competition also plays a big role.
It is just a shame that hard working people have to pay the price for it.
Even worse is that we as consumers are indirectly also playing a part in this.
Disturbing, for sure!
The risk those over-worked drivers pose to themselves and others is frightening.
I will be more cautious when driving on the highway alongside the 18 wheelers.
Thank you for sharing this news.

This is horrible corruption. It exists in the tech industry as well. The bleaker aspects of human nature are depressing!
I hope they get this under control. That's terrible what they are doing to these drivers. Besides that they are actually, when overtired, driving dangerous weapons while so tired that if they fell asleep at the wheel could cause danger to others. It really needs to be stopped. If not only for safety and well being of the drivers but the general public!
My 2 sons drive big rigs and some of the hours they do are not right and then they often have to wait for payment until the owners receive their money!
Im hearing some of the horror stories by truckers who bring in loads to my facility. It needs to be stopped!!!! Total abuse!

It is amazing that still in America this is possible.
I am not so sure how that works but isn't the government monitoring the Trucking companies. Maybe I am too naive for that.
