Empathy mapping
Designing an action or an app to benefit a user is a mission in itself. We run largely on empathy. Empathy binds us and also motivates us. When we unlock the proper points and sequence we have an empathy map.
In any sort of user design action we map out a journey for the user based on their anticipated preferences. Preparing a product or service for a user is like clearing a field. You have to scope out the plot, anticipate desired usage, then position buildings and constructs to best advantage.
You must survey, clear obstacles, grade and prepare the plot for habitation. The action depicted above defines the objective of creating an effective video production. The user must be thought of every step of the way.
You are mapping actions against anticipated obstacles and expected outcomes. We begin with the necessary steps in the process at the top and measure them against user expectations at the side. You go through the rainbow of actions and expectations for each step of the process
- recording the video - acquiring the necessary manuals, batteries and studio area. Questioning the effectiveness of the action.running through the exhilaration of accomplishments. Revelling in the successes then experiencing the pain points that are obstacles in the process. Ultimately assessing the operation accomplished for effectiveness in the design and production process.
- downloading to the computer. Ensuring the electronic hookups are compatible.Ensuring hardware necessities are met such as cable lengths or disk space.
- assuring the software requirements are met in parallel. Finding, designing or acquiring an effective app for editing and production.
- editing for run speed, visual clarity, color perception and other factors.
- exporting the video. Ensure all the previous concerns are not lost in the transition to a final working format.
- uploading and hosting. Shall we put it on You Tube or another service.
- Sharing and disseminating. Ensure it can run on other devices even mobile.
Ultimately we are looking at a final end to end review and acceptance. If we go through these steps of success effectively for all of our projects we can expect to thrive!
