Above the Fold
This question was asked in a forum question today and requires a demo to explain. Newspapers were often folded in thirds so the more important news was visible at first look.
The same applies to advertorials that were folded in envelopes. The top 3rd of an 8 X 11 sheet of paper is the same height as a standard window envelope display.
It's a marketing balance navigation to measure;
- mailing capacity
with
- message display
An examination and research shows the upper part of the fold can be 10% to 65%. This will depend on the product or service being advertised, the urgency of the message and customer demographics!

Thought provoking. I'll have to check what my site shows right upon first opening. Thanks for the info.
All the best,
Wendi
This is a great observation Mike and something we should all consider. Unfortunately My theme shows just my website name and image above the fold. I love the theme and don’t want to change it. However I cannot find an answer as to how to reduce it.
I will work it out but if anyone has an answer I would be more than grateful.
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen
correction is was the information (news) most likely to sell the paper not necessarily the most important news. sometimes the two happened to be the same.
You have to have engaging content and also a good indication of what your website is all about above the fold.
People visiting your website will on average only give it a tiny number of seconds before either continuing or clicking away.
Make that area count

Didn't realize this newspaper term was also useful in content marketing, but it makes sense that it would be. Thanks, as always, Mike....
