Why Don't People Learn
With the research that we all do in preparation for writing content, we see how much has been written on a particular subject. My first site is a WA site so I've spent time going thru the many pages related to online business, income from home, starting your own business, and of course paired with that are the publications about scams and fraud. There's a wealth of information out theretoday. With so many resources available and so many warnings to the consumer, I have to ask, why haven't we made a dent in the scam market ?
If we've gradually become more savy and knowledgeable about what to steer clear of, why has there not been a decrease in the amount of phony offers out there. Everyday I get offers in one of my boxes offering some scheme or get rich program. Is the average public just stupid, or is it a useless battle fighting the nasty word "Greed". It seems to me that offers and temptation is everywhere. The scammers seem to know exactly how to play to greed and no matter how much information and warning materials get out there, these schemes just keep proliferating.
I know I've been caught in the web, unfortunately more than once, but I've learned. I recently read an article that it's almost guaranteed that in the a search for working from home category, 90% of people looking are certain to loose money in a fraudulent program. I find that somewhat depressing especially when there is so much out the to help the consumer. I know none of us will change the world overnight. I guess we can only hope that someday the good guys will out write and out wit the bad guys. I wonder how long that will take ?

In my other life (lol) I work with an Internet Marketer, selling his coaching program and the number of people I speak to who have been scammed in the past is around 70% !! Unfortunately many get caught up in that 'this is the one which will change my life!' mindset and yes, greed does come into it. But I also tell them to remember the old saying: 'if it seems too good to be true.....'
I know that's what we're always told but greed is like a magnet that's very hard to fight and those percentages reinforce that theory. Sad but true.
I think your last paragraph answers the question. You fell into it, I fell into it, we all do. Because they get clever - they use tactics to make us feel like they figured out some better system, we're all looking for the best way. I admit that's how I found WA - I wanted to know if there was a better way. But also Kyle and many here actually capitalize on these people - by writing about the scams - there seems to be no end so it's profitable to do so.
It's so true, that's why it really all comes back to the greed factor. You said it in a more diplomatic way.
Because unfortunately there's so many people out there that are more than happy to prey on other people. Honestly I wouldn't really say it boils down to the average public being stupid or greedy (Some, but I would guess it's a small percentage) I think the greater percentage are desperate, they're broke, they're burnt out working two to three jobs just to make ends meet, they miss their families. As hard as we may try, the average person is going to gravitate towards some easy quick money scheme, hoping to solve their problems and, like I said earlier there's more than enough people out there willing to prey on that desperation. Kyle and Carson have always heavily frowned on WA being advertised as a get rich quick program, they're the type that want people here for the right reasons, this is one of the many reasons I like it here but, in the end, the thought of having to work for an undetermined time to make their dreams come true just doesn't work for some people and they stick with the "lottery mentality" of hoping one scam may work where the last didn't. At the end of the day, even though we may not make a dent in the scam market, we can sleep sound knowing that marketing WA to people as it's meant to be could possibly change someones life :D
Good point and well said. I didn't look at it quite like that. I just know for me, I only have to get burned on a hot stove once and I don't touch it again but in different circumstance maybe I would risk it.
Ya, only reason I look at it a little differently is I did a little study on it, basically because I was confuzzled as to why the scam market was thriving so well. I also asked one of my favorite work at home bloggers, and long time member here what he thought. The lottery mentality is very strong with people and work at home, mix that with the fact that a good deal of people looking aren't doing so well, then combine that with the fact that most scam sites sell their products based on dreams and you have a very very large crowd. Look at how many people buy the powerball (Myself included every once in a while) you know you're not going to win buuuuut, "what if".

You're lucky to have a somewhat guardian angel, I was my own fool so after spending and loosing I had to justify it to myself and sometimes I think that's even harder because I felt like such an idiot. Often when you can share with someone who cares and you have a shoulder to lean or cry on, it buffers the loss and stupidity a little, but when you're alone you often dwell on it over and over again.
