I'm an award-winning author. I write real good!

So much of the WA success method is wrapped up in producing the written word. It's been a weensy bit outside of my comfort zone for sure. So, for a little motivation, I've dusted off the only trophy I've ever won in my entire life and placed it beside my computer...

Check it out. Stellar performance back in grade 8!

Thank goodness practice make perfect, because I'm getting tons of practice writing these days. Feeling much better about it and definitely not hard work for posts from the heart as they are so much easier to do.

I've done a bit of research around good writing practices (and am grateful to the WA folks who have posted advice here too) and have formed a "process".

My Process

Draft. Research. Relax. Write a sloppy mess of thoughts down. Relax. Massage the words, move stuff around, more research. Relax. Polish the words. Relax. Repeat. Pour a glass of wine and publish. Look at it fifty times between my phone and my computer because I'm darn proud of it not being horrible.

The articles that I walk away from several times and re-visit later with fresh eyes are the ones that don't come off as choppy and tortured. As with anything... hard work, faith and patience!

Happy writing all!

lol, What a wonderful idea bringing out the Trophy! Your process sounds a lot like mine, lol! Right down to celebrating with a glass of wine, lol. Here's to more celebrations! :) Christa

cheers! :-)

LOL ... made me laugh ... great start to my day. I can so-o-o relate! M

LOL! No one is going to call me on my bad grammar in the title? (It was on purpose as a joke.)

Janice, someone who writes as well as you do cannot pull that off as a joke. If I had done it I would have had 50 "helpful" responses. We only put our effort where it is needed! Have a good Monday.

Thanks for sharing this, I found it really helpful. Sometimes i feel I get writers block and don't know how to word things but by doing it the way you have suggested could really help me. Thanks

We need to think of it as a painting. An artist doesn't start at the top of a canvas and work down with perfect brushstrokes the whole way, finishing "voila, done" at the bottom. Rather, the paint goes on all over the place, sketchy at first, sometimes with different brushes, lots of stepping back to look and re-working areas that need improvement. An article can be produced the same way (except with words instead of paint).

Great analogy! Thanks. I'm going to quit stepping back to look and then throwing em in the trash.

I think that's a very good process! You are doing great!

Good stuff. This piece is most assuredly a long ways from being horrible! Keep up the process you have developed, and I'll bet you will be amazed at how the words just leap off of your fingers.

Writing Skills. Hmmmm. Great Process, There's a will, There is ways.

Janice, the trophy idea is great! At the risk of overusing the word great, I think this is a great post. Such a great description of what sounds like a really productive process and the glass of wine definitely has it's place. Thanks for posting this.

Thank you Harold. "Great" comment too. :-)

Great advice and I like your trophy!

Thank you Alan. I like it too. :-)

I still have all my baseball trophy from about 25 years ago when I played
