The Cow Goes Quack and The Dog Goes Meow!!!

So you are probably wondering what the heck does that mean. This is my first blog post so I wanted to make it a really good one.

Does it always have to be that way?

The one thing that can KILL , I mean absolutely KILL success...Is the need for the "Cow to go quack and the Dog to go meow". Don't worry I will explain what this means in a few seconds I promise. First let me tell a brief story:

Currently I am taking a class on lean in the manufacturing industry. For those who have never heard of lean. Lean is essentially the concept of getting rid of wastes (Ie. unnecessary steps in a business.)

Generally this is an informative class and things tend to flow smoothly. Well one day the instructor is teaching us some new concepts. Things are going good until someone blurts out:

"Man learning this stuff is pointless, I'll never get a job that pays $100,000. Man this is a waste of time."

Now mind you, our instructor has been in this industry for over 28 years and has worked for multiple fortune 500 companies. Our instructor told him "Well I get paid over $100,000 to consult with companies on just what's on this one sheet of paper alone ." He went on to state that %5 of people in the manufacturing industry know this material. The way he answered was with complete class and was quite inspiring.

So Whats the point of this post?

The cow going quack and the Dog Going Meow, are those moment when we think we know better.

How many times have you heard someone say "This is the way that I have always done it" even when they are completely wrong? It is in these moments. Moments when we have the opportunity to learn a new or better way of doing things, but instead choose to resort to our old way that we cheat ourselves out of an opportunity to grow. This is not to say that sometimes we don't have a better method. I am simply saying, we have to know when we are right and when we are being arrogant.

I feel bad for the guy in this story. He will probably end up making a lot less than what he's worth and end up helping half as many people than he could have. ( I truly hope this isn't the case though.) He make less than he's worth simply because he had to be right.

Why would you want to be right about being worth less than "what you truly are worth?" You should always be open to ideas that can make you better as a person and aid in your personal growth.

Final Thoughts:

Hey maybe you can help me. My goal is to make this a timeless post, that helps a lot of people. So if you found this helpful:

Very well written and completely agree! I don't know how many times I have heard "But this has always worked for me in the past!"

All I can ever say to that response (instead of argue) is "Well you do it that way, I will do it this way, let's see who gets further." :)

Good read, well written! Thanks..

Always keep humble, regardless of your situation or your experience. I have been at this 12 years (full time) and I know that I really know nothing in the scheme of things and that excites me knowing that I have so much left to learn.

Excellent post Mike, love the theme!
