Did anyone see last week's episode (11/6) of Last Week Tonight?
Yes I know John Oliver is usually very political, and many of us probably don't agree with him on a lot of things, but this segment wasn't political I promise.
It was all about how MLMs are the biggest scams around. And I know we all agree with John on that one.
Check out "john oliver mlm" on youtube. Definitely a good one to watch. And maybe show it to any of your friends who are thinking of joining an MLM.
I'm thankful every day that I never decided to buy into Youngevity (which was covered in the episode) or MOBE. I don't know what stopped me--I was so close to joining both times--but I didn't get sucked in. What a relief!

There are MLMers here in WA, so you may ruffle a feather or two with your stance/opinion. Such is life. We all have our opinions.
This week's episode will offend people on a political front. :)
I'm still with an MLM company....my feathers are not ruffled. But I do think we need to make sure we do not give our opinion as if it's the Law of the Land. There are some MLM's that are scams, some are not; there are some affiliate ptograms that are scams, some are not.

True on some! But I have had friends out perform their sponsors and do better. So it all depends on the company and product your with.
Multi-level marketing is a pyramid scam, You know how it works. The top overrides over the bottom. Many have flopped dealing with the physical product.
I'll definitely check this out....and for the record, I am still a part of a MLM company, and it is definitely not a scam. In Oct. 2015, Forbes magazine listed the company as one of the top 50 most trustworthy financial companies in the United States.....and that's out of 700 companies!!! What I don't like about the company, has nothing to do with ethics; being a part of Wealthy Affiliates allows me to have the best of both worlds, and I consider that to be a blessing.
Everyone has their own views and experiences, but I think it's dangerous to judge a whole industry - or a group of people - by the actions of just a few. Some of the fear expressed in the U.S., is a result of that same mentality.
Thanks for sharing. I don't believe all MLMs are a racket, especially ones that promote physical products.

To the folks who are saying not all MLMs are scams, I hope I haven't offended anyone. I honestly didn't know there was so much debate on the subject. I didn't understand conceptually--and I mean this sincerely--how MLMs by their very name and nature differed from pyramid schemes. Clearly they're not all pyramid schemes, based on what some of you are saying... but I still know I'm not joining one personally :)
It's all good, I wasn't offended. Not everyone understands MLM, and not all MLMs are created equally.
I appreciate your humility Mark; I think it's important to realize not to put everything in one basket, just because it looks similar to something else. Many people people who write about WA, have nothing but accolades for the community and training, but I know there are a few who would not agree. Doesn't make one group right and the other group wrong, it's just a difference of opinions and experiences, that may not necessarily be factual.
I think this was a great post Mark, because it sparked interesting dialogue. Keep 'em coming!
