Why I would never use Hootsuite

There are a few reasons why I just refuse to use the hoot suite social media application. The biggest reason being that it is completely impersonal. I love interacting with my fans on my social media platforms. And that personal time and interaction is showing by my ever increasing fans, which is in turn, leading to readers. I love that. And I love getting that personal message of 'man I totally get that status you just posted'. One of the best feelings ever when I relate to my fans. Another reason, I can not stand that stupid owl.ly short link. I don't know why. But I hate it. I'm doing my own short links soon and I can't use those with hootsuite like I can bit.ly. Which makes my stuff more personal. The analytics are expensive! Like $50 for the proper analytics (ha. no) It sucks on Facebook. like the main images and when you post a link are NOT pretty. At all. Look at it. Yuck. Basically everything to do with Facebook and Hootsuite is suck-o. I could go on for days. But I have to go play with my kids. ;)

Sounds like you have been using a different program from me. I don't understand what you're saying at all. You can personalise your messages on hootsuite just like you can any of the other twitter programs. I have always got perfectly good analytics and certainly don't pay that amount. Each to their own obviously. I don't pasted from hootsuite to facebook but I do to LinkedIn weekly with no issues :) Beverley

https://hootsuite.com/plans is what I was talking about for analytics. You can get basic analytics, but to do good analytics, like the kind I would get directly from the social media site itself based upon the post, would be around $8.99 a month. Which, if you look at that over a year, is a pretty good amount of money. That I really don't want to spend. Their vanity url form asks automatically for a budget with the lowest amount being $50/month and that is what I was referring to for vanity urls. I've recently purchased my vanity url for my blog, and I would rather use that than owl.ly or bit.ly. Not really a big issue, but just more branded, which I like. I'm sure hoot suite is fine for LinkedIn, but being in the parenting niche, the majority of my traffic is Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram. Those types of networks coupled with my fan base, just don't mix well with hoot suite. So I guess it's just different niches needing different things! But hey if it works for you and saves time, I'm all for it.

Still don't understand - but it doesn't matter. I've used them very successfully for years with all the other mediums you mention - excluding facebook (though I even did it with them in the past) - and even with a parenting site at one point - so I don't agree about the niche - thing - but as I say it doesn't matter.

Well hopefully people would deserve a personalized response -- there is quite enough of the scripting, macros and rubber stamping already!

Especially since you are willing and you see good feedback == go with your heart and thank you for sharing as I do believe this is the first time I've heard anyone say something negative about hootsuite and it is stuff like this that make it well worth logging into WA!

Thank you much! Yeah, I mean, it's useful for some, but my niche is very personal, and people respond so much better when I post on a case by case basis. And it's more fun for me to do it that way!

Thanks for sharing

Thanks Megan for the great information. Saves us a lot of time of "hit and miss" so to speak. Have a good day!

Thank you!

Good info. Thanks...........Frank

Never used it but seen lot's of tutorials on Youtube. Supposed to make managing your various s'media easier.

Yeah, but in my school of thought, I'd rather things be more personal than easier if it means happier fans

I used hoote suite back a year or so ago, and I didn't like it either, I since have quite using it. It is not personal that is for sure.

Very much impersonal. I don't like that. I know I'm turned off by automated posting, so I know my fans will be too

haha, I've never gotten into those automated things, I just go to the source and post

It's honestly just as easy! It's not like they save THAT much time, you know?

Yes, the only I think it's really good for is something that should be scheduled, you know like an autoresponder type thing, maybe a timed contest type thing or something to that effect.

Never heard of Hootsuite but immediately thought of Hooters (where the waitresses wear skimpy orange tops) and shoot. If it's that bad, then a hoot of macabre laughter is in order...mwahahahaha....(can you tell it's time for bed?) Thanks for the headsup.

Thanks for a review, I'll keep that in mind :)
