Still No Sales - Level Setting Expectations
For a long time I had been looking for a way to make money online....I knew people were doing it but I didn't know how. That's when I stumbled on Wealthy Affiliate....it was awesome to finally learn all of the secrets of making a passive income online.
Once I joined and finished all of the trainings and began building my website, I got really excited....I thought to myself, "could this actually work???" Based on all of the materials that are available here, along with all of the success stories from other folks, it sure seemed like it could work.
It's been 2 months now and I've got a fully functional website up and running....I've followed all of the rules regarding keywords, site feedback, comments, etc. My social profiles are created and I've got both internal and affiliate links in my content.
The problem? I have earned exactly $0.00! I know that niche sites take some time before any money is earned, but I did not know that I wouldn't earn any money at all. It's difficult to keep a positive vibe going when the wind is taken out of your sails, but I do not want to give up....I'm hopeful that with a bit more hard work, the results will start to show.
Are you just beginning your niche site and actually making money? I'd love to hear about other people's experiences!

I have seen success stories of member's making enough money in 1 month to pay for the yearly membership. When I have commented asking how they were able to do so much is such a short time, it usually turns out that they had the website before coming to WA and just utilized the lessons to improve it. Therefore Google already trusted their site and they already had traffic.
I think you need to think of it as a marathon..not the 100m dash.
We will all get there if we are persistent, follow the teachings and think positively. DON"T GIVE UP!
I think I may have commented or given feedback on your site. From what I hear, it takes much longer than a couple months to see a profit. First you have to get traffic to your site. Are you seeing any traffic yet? If you are not on the first page of a Google search for some keyword of yours, you probably won't get traffic yet. I'm struggling for traffic myself. It's been three months for me.
It will come, Jim, don't let this post discourage you. They were told this was not a get rich quick thing and it's not!
Even though creating your own online business is much easier than creating a traditional one, it is still a business! Just keep in mind the 4 realities of any business:
1.) It is a journey --> This will take time.
2.) It is a business --> Business is tough,
3.) People will quit --> 80% quit in their 1st year
4.) It is simple, but not easy
Check out this insightful video by the founder of Success Magazine Darren Hardy, it's called "Surviving the Entrepreneurial Rollercoaster". I'm sure you will be able to relate!

Hi matt, it's been a long time for me on the internet, and I haven't made much at all, mostly because I didn't have any help, I tried doing it all on my own, do you know I had a site on the first page of Google (3rd position) for months( I deleted the site) and didn't make a cent, had all kinds of visitors, apparently they were as broke as me..... anyway, it does take time, and sometimes a niche doesn't work. It may work, maybe you just have to take a new angle on it. I wish you the best, don't give up, keep on trying.
If you opened a Brick and Mortar business, you would see absolutely no profits for much longer and actually since you would have to pay rent, electric, and other expenses, you may even lose money.
You need to have a mindset that you want to help your reader. That is why you are blogging. The money will start to come when you have site trust with your readers.
Be patient, persistent and positive, you will do it.
I've never thought to compare it to a brick and mortar store....that makes a lot of sense, thank you for that analogy
Give yourself at least a year of solid work - Google doesn't trust your site yet.
I am coming up to the six month mark for my site and posts that were previously lost in the depths of Google are now sneaking onto page 1/2/3 ect.
What niche are you in?
Wow that's great that your pages rank so well now. I'm in the wedding niche, my site is http://bestweddingpartygifts.com
Ok, so you have something you are passionate about and that's very important because as you have found out - the excitement of 'making money' wears off after a few months.
That's when the real work begins.
As I am beginning to discover myself, structure and vision is paramount - your articles and content should reflect the overall direction of your business.
I think people give up because they crank out content somewhat aimlessly and hope for the best.
Even with good keywords, social marketing ect if there is no overarching purpose to your work it is easy to become 'lost' and give up.
So my point is, think about where you want your business to be in one year from now, map out all the key components on paper, break these down into actionable tasks, structure a realistic time frame, and get to work.
This will keep you focused on moving forward in a constructive manner; checking analytics, sales ect is soul destroying in the early days - try not to dwell on it.
Take this advice with a wheelbarrow full of salt - I am only just starting to see results myself.
Keep your head up. When you get recognized things tend to blow up. These last two months will be a very distant memory. Keep reaching out to all the different forms of social media so that you are able to get your website and your name out there. If you ever need help spreading the word please let me know
Two months is not long enough for most of us. It takes a while to become recognized. Don't get discouraged. There are people here making a lot of money and some just beginning to earn a few dollars. Go to site-feedback and see if you can get some of the sucessful ones--Loes, PJ Germain, Jay, there are many to choose from to look at your website for constructive feedback. They see things we newbies would never think of. Hang in there!!!!
That is so true Barbara. My first feedback i ever did wad extremely helpful. They see crucial things that us novices miss. But yeah. Don't give up. Keep going.
Well, that is a bit discouraging to read, as I am in the process of setting mine up! However, I suppose it's real, and these things do take time. I too, would love to hear what people say about this who have been there! I know it will come for you - hang in there!
I didn't mean to discourage you, I hope you continue doing what you're doing!
It's good to know the realistic expectations.

hi matt - how active are you on forums in your niche?
are you getting your name about?
do you have business cards? have you put them in all of the churches in your area - every week?
have you put them up on local boards?
what about photograpers? online /offline anyone doing weddings - go down to the church on saturday when there is a wedding on and find the photographer!!
vicars?
wedding shops
tuck them in wedding dresses in charity shops
be creative
there is a lot you can do to help promote yourself
but in 2 months you cannot expect too much in the niche you have chosen - it is competative.
i cannot find you with similar web so your trust with google is low at present - how many post/pages do you have?
you will do well if you post weekly or more frequently for at least 6 month or a year.
where you might get money is from referrals from other sites in your niche or other advertising
don't worry we all go though the doubts that it works - but it does.
no i haven't made any money yet but google is starting to like me and i am not promoting like i should be so what do i expect!!!
if you have signed up for a year stick it out and keep going - you might as well you signed up for your site for a year
dig deep and keep going
plan a strategy - i know you are busy - but start promoting verbally wherever you go, strike up a converation with likely looking people - see if they know anyone getting married - pass out a card- explain take an email address to get more details back to you (better) build your list!!
i agree with lisa that if it was a bricks and mortar business you would have paid out a lot more and be loooking at a longer return on investment time!!
have fun
