About Jimcarlsen65
Joined March 2016
Hi, my name is Jim Carlsen. I am semi-retired, having recently closed my auto repair business, and leased the building to someone else. I presently work part time for the man I leased the shop to. I find it much more relaxing to just work a few hours and then go home. I am also currently the preacher for the church of Christ here in Buffalo, Wyoming. In the past I have raised and trained horses for over twenty five years. My wife and I really enjoyed riding almost all of our lives, especially in the mountains. I am presently looking for a way to earn extra money, since social security doesn't provide very well. That's why I decided to try Wealthy Affiliates. Please wish me luck.

Hi Jim,

Thank you for the kind words. And super happy meeting you.

I enjoy visiting the church though I was born in a Hindu family. Turkey meals at Christmas time are superb. :)

India has a small Christian population in the south, where they are a majority. I love following all religions and trying to digest the best part of them, ignoring the dark side of every religion.

Please stay connected.

Best regards,
Gautam

Ah, that's a place in Andhra Pradesh. I never heard of it! I'd imagined it would be a place in Kerala, where there are many Christians.

I will have a look at your website now. :)

The website is great! Since when is it up?

I started the site last May. I don't sell anything, I just wanted to help people understand the bible.

That's great. You have the traffic you need to reach your audience?

Unfortunately, no I font have the traffic. I have very little generic traffic. I need help with that.

Reply
GautamWorld Premium
I will have to check your website first regarding SEO. We could then take small baby steps and wait for the results. :)

Do you use social media?

You seem to have a competitive niche, though, but again Google is not the only way to get traffic.

I post some of my articles on facebook, twitter, and google.

Do you have a large following there, and do you get reasonable traffic from social media?
Reply

Sorry I couldn't get back to you earlier. I was at work. The answer is no, I don't have any good following at all.

There's a great tool called MassPlanner, which you could use for social media. It will help you get a lot of targeted traffic. You could try it for five days for free(with all the features intact). You may choose to upgrade if you like it. You could google MassPlanner and go to their website to register.

Cheers.

Just came across you, so I thought I drop by and say hello! My name is Age, I'm married to a beautiful lady and have two fantastic sons.

I enjoyed reading your profile and have read a couple of your interesting blogs. I have looked at your howtohorsetraining website and I'm impressed, you've written a lot of interesting information and you have some wonderful pictures of horses. It was also very interesting reading about you and your wife on the 'About me' page.

Jim, I have just been revisiting your site. Something I forgot to mention before is I find your font a bit hard to read. I don't know if it is just me but I wanted to let you know this.

And you have a great site. My experience is with quarter horses (the proper pillow cheeked ones - not the fancy, tarted up with Thoroughbred ones) and Australia Brumbies.
Reply
jimcarlsen65 Premium
Thank you Helen. I'll do some playing around with the font type and see what I can come up with.
the brumbies are the wild horses aren't they? Are they like the wild horses here in the states? Ours are interbred with various horses that have been released into the wild by people.
Reply
HelenpDoyle Premium
Jim, I expect that the only differing thing is their ancestry Here is the brumby link to Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brumby

I read the mustang one and it looks pretty much the same.

My two best cattle chasing mares were brumbies. One had the best running walk I have ever experienced. So much so that every time a vehicle drove by (rarely as the roads were very remote) they stopped to watch her. Often a request to buy her followed!

Jim you can change the font in Appearances.Try that first.
Reply
jimcarlsen65 Premium
So some of your brumbies are gaited horses? I find that interesting. None of our wild horses are gaited. As to the font. I don't find anywhere to change the font type. On the editor page, you can simply choose a heading size, or not choose any, and allow the default font to remain, but that print is just too small for me. Any other suggestions?
Reply
HelenpDoyle Premium
I don't think the gaiting is common but it does occur.

In appearance try some of the font types. Often type changes the size a bit and it's the shape of yours that is a bit hard to read around. Before doing this make sure you know what font type you are already on.
Reply
jimcarlsen65 Premium
I'm still not seeing any choices of font type. Sorry if I'm being difficult.
Reply
HelenpDoyle Premium
Never difficult. You just don't see how yet. Attached is how to get to the font. This is actually the font style not the size. As you select a new style you get a preview on the right of the screen. If you don't like what you see try another one. Your font style won't change until you save it.

Each style is different and often one of the differences is in the size. There is a bit of difference. As it is the shape (type) I am talking about testing some of these out might be ok. There is a way to change fonts but you have to add a new plugin. WPress's Use any Font. I am only playing with this at the moment but what I have so far is on each page or post I have font features added to the bottom tool bar.
Reply
jimcarlsen65 Premium
Yes, that is where I've been looking, but I don't have that available with my theme evidently. There is no choice for fonts, like your show in your picture. I wish there was.
Reply
HelenpDoyle Premium
Then you might take a look at that plug in. The only disadvantage I find with it is that is a page/post by p/p process where as the one in appearance is an overall one for your site. Find the plug in and read what they say about it and how to use it. Don't install it until you feel confident it is what you want. Ask the question of the community from those that use the same theme.
Reply
jimcarlsen65 Premium
Thanks Helen. I appreciate all the time you've put in here. I really do.

Our activity level is crucial. But it's hard to find the time, isn't it? I'm semi-retired, but still work 6 hrs a day, and have other responsibilities as well. One of my sites is just to spread God's word. The other is hopefully going to be the "money maker" some day. Sometimes my "money maker" takes a back seat to my preaching. But I keep trying.

Jim, im in Colorado and am in the same situation as you are! Recently retired, and needing extra money.I am also a horse lover and looking for a website having to do with horses. Im new to WA, and am feeling overwhelmed at the moment.
Reply
jimcarlsen65 Premium
What part od Colorado are you in? Don't feel overwhelmed. Just go ahead and start the lessons and ask any questions that you have. I seems to me after being here for three months, and seeing the website of others, that a site that is primarily for the purpose of selling a certain type of product is more conducive to this business. If the only reason people go to your site is to buy something, you will be ahead of the game right from the start. Good luck, Jim.

Brother Jim; I've got your back. From a fellow pastor here in Abbotsford, BC, Canada. I was out in Wyoming last summer just traveling in the motorhome and had planned on staying up in Sheridan, but it was so busy and LOUD.
I moved on down to Buffalo and got permission from the school board to park in their lot for the night. I learned a few things in your town. First, you have a most wonderful restaurant, bar and grill called Up In Smoke. I prefer eating in these establishments because the food is ALWAYS superior and the costs are low.
I had the Combo Plate with back ribs, brisket, garlic bread and their mac and cheese. I ended up taking some back to the RV with me. The mack and cheese is to die for. I'm a chef and have been for over 50 years and their mac and cheese is the best.
I love the town, and will be back again. Maybe we can connect when I come into town. Not sure when, but I will be back.

I do have a question. I was looking at Jaaxy, and saw a keyword with traffic of about 14, qsr of about 16, and an Seo of 97. There was another with traffic of over 800, qsr of about 15, and an Seo of only 84. I would have thought that one with the higher traffic would be better. What am I not understanding?
Reply
Kyle Premium
These both sound like good options.

You want your keyword to meet the following criteria:

(1) Must be lower than 200 QSR initially, as you get more authority in search engines you can tackle more competitive search terms.
(2) Must get some traffic, I ideally aim for over 50 searches per month
(3) Must make grammatical sense

I recently created training on how to come up with great keywords here and this is a strategy I have always used to build out my website Jim ... Once you have your keyword, you are going to create a page or a post on your website targeting that keyword. It should be within the following places in your content:

(1) Somewhere in the page/post title
(2) Somewhere within the first paragraph

And then write your content naturally and make sure it is engaging. People search "keywords" when they are looking for something so as you start getting ranked under these keywords, you are going to start to see traffic.

Once you have traffic...you have a ton of opportunity to generate revenue.

Hope this helps you out Jim!
